Force x51v to use QVGA ?

The reason why i want to do this is because some apps / games / emus will work faster in QVGA mode than in VGA. Is there a way to do this ?

It does normally. It uses pixel doubling to expand QVGA data to fill a VGA screen. If you don't do the doubling, the picture will shrink to 1/4 of the screen. However, pixel doubling does come at the cost of speed, since that is another operation that the O/S must do.
