I'm sure you know this, but I will repeat it anyway.
There are tons of axims of all models, conditions, and specs on ebay. In some ways, it's better on ebay than from Dell direct since alot of sellers will give you gps receivers, car mount systems, cf/sd memory cards, travel chargers, and a host of other accessories at a really good price.
There will be alot of units for sale for a long time, I think.
In the office, we tested the cingular 8525 for a pda smartphone. The axim was a nicer unit, and so we still work with them alot.
Unless we lose one or both Axims (x30 and x51) I doubt it. I have to admit that new HP Oak or whatever it's called - their soon-to-be released Windows Mobile phone with the slide-out keyboard - is very, very nice.

I'm do like the Axim, the only reason I don't love it is because of the sometime buggy os.
I'm thinking about getting the hp messenger 900 series, but they don't want to bring them out, I guess. I would consider getting an ipaq, it would do; iphone is just to delicate for me, I use my phone religiously.
I DON'T KNOW!
I've been using an HP ipaq hw6945 for phone and PDA duties. It's handy to have the built-in phone, but my Axim X51V is still a far superior PDA. More RAM, more ROM, better resolution, better flash card usage.
If you're not looking for a phone/PDA, then the other posters are probably correct in advising to just stick with the Dell and buying either new or used on eBay.
If you're looking for phone+PDA, then I think there are some newer Pocket PC phones that are hitting or will hit the market soon that have specs similar to the Axim (in addition to the phone, but minus SD and CF card slots). But, you'll pay a premium--maybe close to $800 for an unlocked phone! Ouch.
Do you ever think about switching to an ipaq, or some other pda?
If so, which one would you consider switching to?
HP just released the HP Ipaq 210 which is the PDA I would purchase when and if both of my X51Vs stop working. From HPs specifications this unit closely matches my requirements in using my X51V. Since the Ipaq 210 comes with WM6 it was of interest to me last fall when HP announced it to the world. Since that time however found a ROM upgrade on the interenet to WM6 A03. Once updated my X51V is more stable and faster than the last ROM upgrade A12 from Dell.
I still use my x51v as a quick way to log on to msn without having to turn on my computer.
I use a vga cable anyway, so it's all cool
not all pdas/pda-phones have vga out.
actually I can't think of one WITH vga out, except from the HTC advantage
I agree with all of the writers who say they will keep with the Axim. I notice there is a healthy amount of them on ebay and so when my dell axim x3i dies, I plan to upgrade to either an s50 or x51.
Of course, there is those smartphones with the latest windows mobile that seems very interesting.
