First of all, the X50(v) series all have extra data that has to be removed manually before the rom dump in order for the rom build to be successful. That extra data will also have to be added back manually to the rom afterwards. As for X51(v) series, there is no extra data. And this process is possible... As for X51(v), I'll be releasing a kitchen after my final WM6.1 ROM is released, which I hope isn't too much longer. Package Tool really helps out a lot for removing apps cause the majority of them would end up in their own lil folders which could then be deleted, but you'd then need bepe's buildos to build all those folders back into a dump folder. Every folder would then have their own RGU's, that you could edit before you ran bepe's buildos, and buildos would make the default.hv files for you. I have several kitchens for the Axim's, so I can help anybody out except with the X50(v) series. Maglite has been helping me a lil bit, but it's hard for him to help me much when his English is not that good. Football has helped me out alot too...

Thanks Lenny. One thing that I did notice is that some of the modules in rom seem to overlap each other (packages.sof seems to be one of them, overlaps packages.cif). Can you replace a file with a module and still have it work (replace module "packages.sof" with file "packages.sof"? Did you find this problem when working with the X50v rom? As far as testing has gone for me, Tazio's imgfs tools don't work with the axim roms, you have to use Mammich's imgfs tools. What do you use to separate the rom dump into OEM and SYS? As for extra data, do you mean where is says "empty header" in the viewimgfs.exe output? It also helps if you get the rom dump status in a text file with "viewimgfs.exe (name of axim rom) > test.txt".

Like I said in chat, Package Tool is used to convert the dump folder into OEM/SYS dir's. But, it uses the packages.sof file to know what goes where. So until you can get this file to dump, you will not be able to use package tool.

As far as the extra data, I've yet to see how/where this data starts/stops and do not yet know how to dump it, then re-add it. The X50v files I have already had this info removed. So I might compare the two roms, and see whats missing from the stock rom when compared to the one I use...

And you can use tadzio's tools, you just have to use nbsplit first, and then nbmerge last... But I think you will also need to find out what command line switches to add behind nbsplit to get it to work properly... And make sure u use tadzio tool's in -conversative mode.

I've been looking over these several threads about changing ROMs, and before I tinker, I'd like to extract the ROM from my axim, x51v, so I can always go back to what I have now.
I believe it is the last ROM, A12 (Windows Mobile 5.0, OS 5.1.195 (Build 14957.2.3.1)).
Is this covered in a thread I just haven't read yet?
If not, does anyone know how to do this?

Just one more thing, the ROM I have has the GPS stuff in it from Dell, and I'd like to keep a ROM with that in it as my back up ROM.

No problem. I would be happy to test it out throughly. Time to mess with Lenny's ROM again.

Good thing I waited. Will test this weekend while playing Halo 3: ODST.

Thanks for the update.
