I have a couple of questions here that I didn't find anywhere else:
1) Is it possible to update my X51v rom to a rom with different language??
I have a brazilian A01 rom and I don't like it this way, since all of the programs I use are in English. Also, the portuguese therms that they used on it are laaame.
2) What are the availabe official ROM images for my device? Where to get them?
I see that there are some nice unofficial roms, but I do not intend to lose my warranty. For now, I would like to update to the newest official rom, just to keep to date.
So, where can I find them? Dell's website is confusing, they refer to them as "drivers" or something like that and I really don't know what I'm getting.
There are the official and then there are the unofficial roms and then there are roms that must not be discussed. All official roms are found on the DELL website. They are easy to find. The unofficial rom that we are allowed to talk about is found here in this site if you do a search for the M17 ROM which was an update of the A17 WM5 ROM that was cooked up by a wonderful human being named Football (an important name to google along with "x51V ROM" and the name Lenny). But then there are the roms we are not allowed to talk about because they are not WM5 Roms. So, it would not be wise to talk about those here. The M17 ROM is very good. I have used it a lot. I prefer other ones however.
You can have a look at this thread, I've no idea if it works for WM5.
It might be in there somewhere.
And you will find the A12 Rom on the Dell site Here.
Those tricks on the link don't work on X51v since its rom header is different.
and thanks for the rom links. I got the english A12 and brazilian A12, but will not install for now. I'll wait and look around if I can change my X51v language...
I think you can only change to a different ROM language is by using the bootloader method.
A disclaimer - I've personally never used the bootloader (although many on the board have). There's always a chance of bricking the Axim and, since you mentioned the warranty above, I suspect flashing with a different language will void the warranty as much as using A17 (which is not an official Dell ROM).

The last ROM update from Dell will put your unit at WM5 A12. The A17 ROM upgrade is not from Dell but was developed from the A12 to make some small improvements. There are WM6 ROM upgrades around the internet and reports suggest they work and you will get a great increase in speed over Dells final release plus a newer OS. The ROMs however if installed will void any remaining Dell warranty, in addition they have not sanctioned by M$ nor Dell and are illegal.
all right, thanks for all this information, that's what I need to know.
I will take a look on bootloader, but I guess I'll have to be with the brazilian official version until march '09... damn I would like to change the language (and use 8gb SDHC and ...... )
