X51 Runs Only On AC

I've searched several sites, but have found no matching issue. I have two Axim X51's, and this problem occurs with only one of them. Suddenly two days ago, the battery in one will not hold a charge. I have an original Dell cradle for charging, and I used it to charge both units fully. When I turn one on, it is fine. When I turn on its evil twin, I'm immediately told the battery is critically low.

I thought at first that the battery had "gone bad" in the evil twin, so I swapped the batteries, recharged both units again - same result.

I did a soft reset, same result.

I did a hard reset, same result.

I did the "Active-Sync Battery Drain Thingie" I've read about, same result.

The unit runs just fine as long as I leave it on the cradle (rendering it a DA rather than the ever-so-much-more-useful PDA), but this is not an acceptable solution.

I've had both of these units for a couple of years, have performed no OS or firmware upgrades on them, have added and removed games & media files over time, and have had no issues with the units.

So, it seems as though the cradle is fine and both batteries are fine, but there's something wrong with the battery connection. Is it trash?

Sounds like your diagnostics are good, could be a bad solder joint has
finally let go and you technical help.
Your one solution could be PPC Techs, now you have to decide
if it's worth the money or time to get a new piece of gear.

Good thing that you have two or you would really be SOL. I sounds like there my be a short somewhere. One possible cause is that a tiny screw inside might have come loose or fallen out. I am not going to recommend to you that you should take it apart. However, if you are comfortable enough that might save you some money.

Thanks for the responses. I do a lot of work with computer hardware, so I'm not completely intimidated by the idea of taking the Axim apart. Do you know of a guide anywhere that might give me some idea what tools I'll require and what I'm looking at once I get in there?

As you said, I have two - and if this one is trash if I don't and possibly not trash if I do, I'm willing to give it a shot if I can find a little guidance.

Thanks again.
