X51V Battery drains quick

I have an X51v.

Every day when I get to work with almost a full charge, I turn it off or at least I think thats what the red button does, then I go to turn it back on after work, and the blue Dell screen pops up for a second like "hey I'm gonna start", and then turns off.
I even have an I-UP battery, and it won't keep a charge. . in fact the I-UP doesn't charge the Axim at all!, so their sending me a new one.

my question:

Why is my Axim not lasting thru the day,and really limited to just a couple of hours?

Even if I have no programs open, and the axim off.

thanks!

ps the link I found for soft, and hard reset tutorials from Dell seems to be dead, can someone explain them?

I am not sure what button your referring to but my 51v purchased from
Dell does not have a RED button,on/off is top dead center above screen.
I would say your problem is main battery is on last legs and/or your backup
battery(super cap) has had it,you should only see thr Dell bluescreen
after a soft/hard reset.

Soft reset is done with the by pushing stylus in the small hole on rear
while a hard reset is accomplished by holding the power button down
and again using the stylus in the same hole for soft reset.
It can also be accomplished by software app if you have the right
ones (i.e. MemMaid) installed.

Humm.... are you thinking of the switch on the upper left side of the unit? (the lock switch?)

Alarms and other things (like active sync) will turn your device ON where it will remain on until whatever you have set for auto poweroff time out.

While your battery might be shot to the point of not holding much of a charge, a good way to save batteries is to configure the power button to do a full poweroff if pressed long enough. The axim WILL NOT wake up for events or activesync if fully powered off.

When all I had was a 1100mAH battery, I'd do this all the time to save my Axim for when *I* wanted to use it. (it can stay powered off for days, weeks, months on end... the batteries do self discharge over time)

Make sure you turn off wifi before you shut off the pda. bluetooth doesn't seem to be a problem but wifi will sometimes cause it to turn on and run in the background draining the battery. Usually this is evidenced by the pda feeling hot when you pick it up even though you thought you turned it off.

Bat

The red button is on my today screen and is software ..
I'm pretty sure it just shuts it down.
I knew about the top button, I should have specified.
Thanks for clarifying the resets ..
So I guess my battery is junk .. know where I can get one that'll last me all day?

Thanks for all the replies

Well software shutdown may not not be the way to go at this point!
If you really want to see if it's your battery that's shot try by actually
using the hardware button to shut it off for a day,if it still drains the
battery then that leaves 2 possibilities-software running in the background
or the battery.
For batteries I have dealt with these people, great price and delivery
along with reliable product-I have had mine for a year still going.

Are you running the A12 version on your Ax?
Have you tried the fake server trick?
Which software "shut down" are you using? The iLauncher shutdown only puts the device in sleep mode not power off.
Turning off via the power button also depends on how you have it set. It can be set to power off or just backlight off.

I shouldn't have given in to my ebay addiction :P

It's kinda funny-pathetic, I have a list of stuff that I'm trying to figure out...
that A12 thing is on it...
I bought my Axim from ebay, cuz it said it already had everything I wanted it for. (morphgear, FPSE, overclocked) then when I got it I noticed that turning the overclock up only freezes the Axim, and my bluetooth controller doesnt seem to work right...

On top of that I've just simply never used one of these ppc devices before.
So what is the A12 rom? should I get it?

Also is there something I can do to get a print out of the software on it?
I have no idea what some of this stuff is for, so it's hard for me to tell you what the software buttons are from...

Thanks for helping the newbs ..

I'm guessing the Ax is second hand and has extra software installed that doesn't come preinstalled.

One of the problems with this is you inherit any problems that the previous owner had.
I'm not sure of the "legality" of transferring software, but be that as it may, did the seller give you the registration codes and software disks etc to reinstall whatever extra software they installed?
If not, whenever you need to do a hard reset you will lose that software.

It is generally better to start with a clean slate and install the programs that you want.
Some software you need to purchase, a great deal is available free or at least as a trial version so you can test to see if it does what you want.

A12 is the last official ROM release from Dell. You can see what Rom you have by going to
Start/settings/system/system information.
If it says A12 there then you have the latest offical version.

As for the programs themselves, they usually have a help file that can tell you about them.
Or look up the software on the internet and see what it can do or download a users guide for it/them.

What's the issue with your BT?

That's enough to start with I think.

Nice ..I paid all that extra for software I won't be able to keep:P

The seller gave me NOTHING...
I did write him back and ask for the codes for the Morphgear, and he said he "could" send them, but never did.

I have a BGP 100 BT controller, only thing is I've installed every set of drivers that came with the cd, and the buttons on the controller always assign wrong meaning that the down button does something else, and the A button is the down...
othor buttons just arent there.
So I can play "parts" of games, but some things just never work.
Especially on beginning game scenes I have to use the hardware on the Axim to get the game started and cannot select threw any options.

Wow iLauncher looks cool! :)

I have ROM Version A01
If I install the A12 am I going to loose my current programs?

Yes, you'll lose the additional programs installed on top of the Dell Rom.

But you can reinstall them; you'll probably need the registration codes for the paid-for programs.

I copied all the files onto my laptop, and all the executable files seem to be there.
I want to do the A12, but I'm not sure what I'm in for, and don't want to push myself too far over the edge...
If I "get threw" the instructions for the update, does anyone know if I'll be able to run my SPB.exe, and have it work, I have the program files folder.
also is this going to make my BT not work? (does it change it to widcomm?)
further .. whats with the cf card thing?
thats my biggest storage...

How much trouble am I asking for by starting the update?

also what is the fake server trick?

sorry for so many Q's at once... I'm just rather nervous :P

thank you all!

Even though you have the .exe files you will most likely not be able to use them without the codes. If the seller won't give you the codes I would at least give him a very bad report on ebay. that really is a rip off. go here: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/x50-x...step-step.html to get the best instructions on how to do the upgrade. follow it step by step. don't take any shortcuts. the biggest problem most people had is that there are two hard resets required, the first just flashes by on the screen and if you don't follow step by step you will end up stuck there. Use a pc that is running win xp not vista. You will need to install widcomm seperate. get it here: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/x50-x...velopment.html

Heh ok, ...
The instructions are for A06's, and up .. should I upgrade to that first?, or does it not matter?
also the widcomm thing is still a mystery to me...
Which version do i need, will it help - interfear, or not.. with my BT controller issues?
Will I need to find new drivers for the controller?

I wrote to the guy on ebay, and he said "He can" send me the stuff, but I'm not sure if he will, or if I just won't hear from him again... hopefully he'll be cool...

Thank you again for all the advice.. you all rock!
