The X51v will be a nice replacement if you can blag it, but they probably won't, on the grounds that it still runs WM5 according to them ;)
If you manage it though, wanna send me your X50v? They won't get you to send it straight back, they'll then call you in 3 months and say "did you send it back?" and you just say "yes". Then they shut up!!!
Nah, I'm not interested in pulling a fast one on Dell, so if they do get me an x51v I'll swap it out. I'm kinda peeved at the moment because while they have shipped something it appears, according to the Service Call info, to be just another x50v and I fired off an email immediately saying "Another x50v isn't going to address my issues since Windows Mobile 5 simply doesn't work as promised - meaning the "trouble-free upgrade" I have printed on the paperwork from Dell that came with the x50v in the first place."

We'll see what happens...
Its been well documented on this site that the X50V upgrade to WM5 has issues. If memory serves me correctly most users after trying this upgrade went back to the original OS that came with their unit. :approve:
so what's the best rom update (stable, that will make it faster and allow for bigger sd cards)?
If 'it' means the X51V Axim the answer would be any of the ROMs for WM6 or WM6.1. I would suggest you do a little research on these various ROMs available on the internet (search using google on WM6 or WM6.1) before you try the process. I have tried all of the ROMs on a test unit I have and all have produced a very fast and very stable unit. There is a hugh difference from WM5 A12 or A17 to WM6. Newer applications that you may use in addition to SDHC card use at any capacity, speed and stability. Going from WM6 to WM6.1 is not that significant IMHO. The changes from WM6 and WM6.1 are mainly confined to phone stuff which of course the X51V has no use for at least that I can fine. I currently have Lennys version of WM6 installed and running on my daily unit and have had it there for over 5 months now. :approve:

Thanks for the info! Was the Lennys your favorite of the roms you tried?
If you use password protection, 6.1 fixes all the password bugs that came out in 6.0. That is a big deal for me. 6.1 only for me. I use Lenny's rom but the other looks interesting because it includes some programs I use all the time.

His original ROM for WM6 included many additional applications that I loaded onto my unit after a ROM upgrade. Not having to do this installation was the main reason. I was also a beta tester for him on the WM6 and WM6.1 various beta releases.
it is a good idea buddy, Chris is just allowing discussion on the version, which will help lot of people to explore and fix he problems they had with wm6.

What was the name (AO#) of the last rom update issued by Dell? Also, I was wanting to try 6.1 from Lenny but having a hard time getting to the install screen. When I hit the wireless+power+soft reset button - I get the hard reset screen. Any thoughts?
I switched to Lennys WM6.1 Haveing trouble setting my OnCourse Bluetooth GPS. I start with "add a new device" It brings up the BT GPS. I enter the code 0000 and then hit the next button. The code I just entered disappears and brings up partnership settings. In the box labels select servise to use from this device I am unable to get anything let alone "Serial Port". This then doesn't allow me to slect a prot for the devise to communicate with the software.
Any suggestions? Anybody know where I can download WM5 to restore the axim back?

Last Dell issued release was A12 for WM5.
After hitting those buttons at the same time release the reset button but hold the other two until the boot screen starts up. :approve:
hold down the wifi and power buttons at the same time, then using your stylis, hit the reset button once and continue to hold down the power and wifi buttons until the bootloader menue shows up. The menue will have a bar at the top of your screen which says something like "SD Image update." Shortly you should see a black bar with white letters. The white letters should show the updates that you are trying to load from your SD card, Then press the press the action button twice. You will then show a bar on your screen which shows the new software being loaded. It will have a blue line that slowly moves across. Make sure you have a steady power source connected to you Axim so it doesn't die in the middle of loading. That would be very bad.
Got the GPS up and running. Was able to get bluetooth setting to partnership. WM6 has Bluetooth explorer, set that and had OnCourse scan for GPS a couple of times. All is working well now. WM6 is faster than WM5 and now it can read my 4g SDHC cards. All other apps seem to haven unaffected by the wm6 upgrade.
