Windows Mobile 6 on your Dell Axim - UPDATE

When I bought my Axim x51v - I specificially asked the Dell salesman 3 X's if it came with mobile 6 and each time he assured me that it did. He Lied. He didn't even tell me that mine was one of the last to be made. :realmad:
Thus when I found out about the Football edition then Lenny's - I hummed and hawed for a while then took the plunge. I am now using Lenny's 6.1 beta 5 Lenny's edition [he has 3 - bare bones, dell stock and Lenny's beta 5's].
Thus with the $500 for the Axim with acc.'s that I bought from Dell - I have no qualms about using mobile 6.1

I believe you have to register at either of these sites to get at the download capability. Both WM6.1s work just fine. No issues with my X51V (which is what unit they are for ONLY). Faster and more stable than WM5 A12 from Dell. I have been running WM6 and now WM6.1 for the past 4 months.

As a footnote, I also agree that the traffic on this site has decreased simply due to others moving onto WM6 and finding nothing here of a resource moved on. Of course all of this is IMHO. :approve:

In the past many people have reported issues with .NET applications and these ROMs coming from XDA-Developers.

Could you install Tweaks2k2 in your Axim and tell me if it works?

No problem here with Tweaks2K2. Running Lenny's 6.1 A07 ROM. Only found one app that doesn't work: 3D Lawn Darts.

In my case, it installed exactly like it did with WM5...exact same experience. On first launch, the application detected my PDA as VGA, changed something and asked to be restarted. Your app works great w/ Lenny's A07.

Excellent idea Chris for allowing this discussion! Way back when WM5 was first available to X50v users, I was one of the first in line to purchase the WM5 CD for $50/-. However that WM5 CD is still not used due to all the pain and hurt it caused many X50v users who upgraded to WM5 and found it slow and horrible, and downgraded it again back to WM2003SE. But I've kept mine as WM2003SE.

Fast-forward to present, and the appearance of revived ROMs for the abandoned Axim X50v/X51v, and new life now beats in the Axims once again!


Allowing this thread is a great idea (kudos again Chris!). I did a lot of reading on other sites prior to moving up to Maglite's WM6 A02 ROM with 0Mb PAGEPOOL (modded by Zeus_Alex).

I found that this is an incredibly stable ROM which I've used for the last few weeks. The filesys impact is much reduced and not noticeable much anymore. I've always figured that when having a pagepool size of some memory size, it should be faster. But it seems that when having a ZERO Pagepool, it also helps to make the WM6 on an Axim X50v behave smoother and quicker. Weird as that may seem... I still can't describe it, so I won't bother. If you feel up to trying this at your own risk, then you can also experience the difference.

I'm having fun installing the WM5/6 apps that work on my WM6 A02 ROM with 0Mb PP. I've further added the 0.5 version in Widcomm for Axim development and its working fine to stream A2DP music to my Sony DR-BT21GB Bluetooth stereo headset! Wow!

Using the Windows Media Player to stream MP3 music, I can control the music application on my Axim from the Bluetooth headphones. Again, awesome! :approve:

I think the only difference between the models was the ROM size. 128 vs 256.

I have a serious issue. When I attempt to change my today theme by selecting a new ".tsk" file, all I get is the default background. I am using LennySH's A07 ROM. Any bright ideas?

I have vista and had to switch to win mobile 6. However I am unable to get the pda to sync. I connect via USB but no connection occurring.

With Vista you need to use Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) which you can download free from Microsoft.

I just flashed my x51v to WM6.1 this past weekend with Football's new rom A06 (upgraded from WM6.0 Football Edition A03), but today Football just dropped A07. No problems here with the A06, if i had known a new rom was coming out i would've waited. His releases seem to be the most stable and reliable. I had the A03 on mine since last September without incident.

Need that crystal ball asap.

Generally the authors of any ROM will put within the file name the model it was made for. Any other use of that ROM will brick the unit other than whats spelled out within the file name. :approve:
