Not if the ROM specifically was made for the X50V. Just make sure your internet search is for a ROM with your model name in its file name and you should be alright. Any ROM that says X51V within its name will NOT work and WILL brick you unit. :approve:

Thanks... seems like they're still working to adapt the ROM to the x50v. If anyone knows any other version of the ROM, please let us know.

There are a couple of versions for the X50v over at xda-developers . I haven't tried any yet though.

There are different roms out there for the axim series. there is a rom for the x50v and the x51v. When you search look for that. if not you will kill your device with the wrong rom, no coming back, ya digg?

The ROMs that I have found on the internet list the 'model' number within the file name. It has been proven by others (the hard way) that not matching the unit with its correct ROM upgrade file will brick the unit. :approve:

Hi Guys,
I seem to be having an issue after the ROM update.
When I do a reset after the update finishes, I continually get the "align screen" over and over again. It completes the alignment and then seems to "loop" and want to do the alignment again and again and this is where I am stuck?
Has anyone had this issue? Any ideas how to get around this?
Thanks

That means that you're not acurately hitting the crosshairs on the alinment sceen. aim for the center of the crosshairs

Heart Axim x5 still won't talk with Vista?

I'm an oldie who's a newby at lots of computer jargon...but after loving
my Axim 5 (and upgrading my PC to run Vista) I decided to upgrade my Axim to the x51v. Foolishly, I didn't find your site until after I discovered I can't get my NEW x51v to talk with Outlook on my PC (now running Vista).

In an awkward attempt to recut the wheel out by hand, I am attempting to sync my Vista PC through our network to my son's XP and from there to sync my Axim. There has just GOT to be an easier way???

In addition, is it possible to HIRE one of you techie geniuses to upgrade my Axim x51v to run on Windows mobile 6 ? I get the legality question, but I'm would love this upgrade anyway and understanding how to do this on my own is frankly beyond my skill level.
Thanks for any help you might be able to offer... this site is great!!
Jolinda :)

Vista uses Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) to sync instead of active sync.
You can download it free from Microsoft.

I would suggest, that if you are unable to sync with outlook, you should look for the reason for that....

Heart

Again, I'm grateful for your experience. THe issue is not syncing Outlook, it's using the Windows Mobile Device Center to sync with Vista. They are not compatible...which leaves me back to reinventing the wheel to sync my Vista via the net to my son's XP, then thru WMDC to sync Outlook to the Axim x51v
That seems to be the issue and after spending 2 hours with Dell tech support, and reinstallinging Outlook 2007, he couldn't get it to work either.

I just thought maybe you guys had an angle that hadn't been considered...

As Cardboard pointed out WMDC isn't your problem.
WMDC is compatible and will sync. As most users have found.
Some things you can try.
Try disabling your Firewall and antivirus software.
Untic, "use advanced network" on the axim.
Use a primary USB not a hub.
Soft reset the axim.
Reboot the computer.
Delete any partnerships and start again.
You can also look in the Active Sync forum for other solutions.
