I have done the firewall and antivirus disconnect and will try the rest this afternoon. I am VERY grateful for the suggestions and if it should work you will definitely get the HERO OF THE MONTH award!! Thank you, Box!

Upgrading "Legally" to WM6

Wrong decision, mate!

John
John,
Pretty harsh, but since you brought it up, lets say I'd like to upgrade my relatively expensive X51v to WM6. How would I go about doing that? You know, in a way that wouldn't be upsetting to anyone! Because if anything should be illegal (you know, besides the train wreck called ActiveSync) it would be preventing one from upgrading a fantastic piece of hardware to an improved OS.
Best Regards,
Fux

I'm glad to hear it... I'd have to agree... And it "should" only get better... I hope!

I haven't been to aximsite for ages! WM6 on my x51v sounds tempting but at the same time risky. Is there a way to back up or make an image of the x51v factory setting before I try putting WM6 on my device?

Yes there are files on the internet to get back to Dell ROM release A12. Flashing of the ROM is the way Dell put the OS onto the unit. I have done this to both of my X51Vs at least 15 times with various ROMs that are on the internet. There have been a few reports of a bricked unit after the flashing but in most cases it was from flashing a ROM made for a different model number. Just make sure you follow the instructions step by step and that the ROM file name contains your specific model number. At this time I know of no ROM for the X51 or X50 units just the X51V and X50V. :approve:

After having wm6 then wm6.1 on my x51v I couldn't imagine why anyone would want to go back to that windows ME of an o/s called wm5.

Well, I'm not convinced of that. I upgraded my x50v to LennySH's wm6.1 and it rocks for about 20 minutes than that dam# filesys.exe hijacks 100% of the cpu and brings everything to an agonizing crawl. Even with everything loaded to the sd card and the 128m ram upgrade it still happens. Perhaps I'm just spoiled with how well it runs on my x51v. I was hoping to use the x50v while I send the x51v to ppctechs to have the 128m ram upgrade done but I can't stand how slow it crawls with wm6.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your WM 6.1.
I have loaded 10 programs to main memory and the x50v still rocks. Even use Act 2008 as contact manager and its faster on 6.1 than 6.0
I was really careful when flashing the football rom to 6.0 spent time to really understand the process maybe this helped on 6.1. Very satisfied with 6.1 it works like a charm.

The only A07 of Football's is for the x51v that I can find. Like I said I LOVE the way wm6.1 runs on my x51v, but I'm trying to find a stable version for my x50v as well. Is there an Ao7 of football's for the x50v that I'm missing? If so link please.

I have been using WM6 for more than 6 months now, no problems at all.

ROM Version is A02 (16.09.07), the way it came from the factory. I have put my Axim in it's original state before I updated.

I installled (and uninstalled) a large number and variety of programs, in it's internal and external memory. It runs fine.

Greetings!

hi, I've been spending the past few hours reading all threads. I am still unable to figure out how to install wm6.
1. Can someone point me a step by step guide on how to do this for my axim x51v.
2. Will most programs be lost and require me to reinstall them from scratch? This will be problematic as I would have lost the registration keys for most programs (like super calendar).
3. Can someone summarise the pros and cons of WM6 vs WM5?
THanks a lot!
