hi, I've been spending the past few hours reading all threads. I am still unable to figure out how to install wm6.
1. Can someone point me a step by step guide on how to do this for my axim x51v.
2. Will most programs be lost and require me to reinstall them from scratch? This will be problematic as I would have lost the registration keys for most programs (like super calendar).
3. Can someone summarise the pros and cons of WM6 vs WM5?
THanks a lot!
2. Backup your unit to the host pc-you will lose anything installed
to Axim main memory-remove memory cards before you start-
the upgrade is done using a SD card format to 32 bit anyway.
3.Read the posts covering WM6 what you gain or lose is totally
subjective and directly impacted on how and what you use
your Axim on a daily basis.

I upgraded my X51V to Lenny's WM6.1. Everything works fine, except I can't get my cell phone to dial, which is the primary way I connect with this unit.
I am able to pair the phone to the X51v. On the Bluetooth screen, it shows my phone, and lists Dialup Networking as a service available.
On the COM ports tab under Bluetooth, there are no COM ports defined. It says to tap New Outgoing Port, but I don't see any button like that. I think this is the problem.
This all worked fine under WM5, so I know the hardware is ok.
Feeling that I need some 'new challenge' this evening, I decided to install wm6, after going thru utube step by step on how to install wm6. I viewed the instruction at least twice complete, installed about 4 times. In thinking I've downloaded corrupted files, I even download the program again. I am still stuck witn wm5 rom A12. At the end of the upload of SD card, the following message comes up:
"Pls check sum zero, Pls reset ppc." I did hard reset each time (of the four times I installed) but I still end with Dell default system which is wm5, rom A12.
Where can I possibly go wrong?

Turns out my SD is corrupted , it doesn't have the complete installation file, my ppc only installed half way. Got my wm6 at last!

Someone please point me the right direction?
In followup to above, I had an old version of Lenny's ROM. Bluetooth works fine with the current L11 version. I did install the Broadcom bluetooth package, but it also worked with the standard version.
I've had a X50v lying around for a while and recently started using it again. I had no idea WM6 had been released nor that it could be made to work with the X50v. My PDA's still running the basic Windows 2003 Mobile, so is it true that to update to WM6 I'm going to need to install various versions of WM5 first?
Pardon my ignorance, but can you save the 2003SE ROM so you can get it back in case you brick the X50v with the ROM update?
There probably is away to extract the ROM but I could begin to explain the process. You still might be able to download the 2003SE ROM from Dell. If someone here cannot answer your questions then try poking around the XDA-developers website and/or the HTC Geeks website.
I would suggest you do a search for your units WM6 ROM using google. From that site (most likely HTCGeeks Forum or xda-developers) you should find that sites ROM upgrade instructions. Make sure you follow them to the letter since your messing with your units ROM. Just make sure the ROM is made for your unit (X50V vs X51V). Using the wrong ROM or not following the upgrade instructions to the letter has been known to turn your unit into a 'brick' or 'paper weight'. :approve:
My wife recently got a HTC Touch Pro and I was considering replacing my Axim. After much delay and skepticism I finally decided instead to update my x51v to Lenny's ROM.
I am completely satisfied!!! :approve: I cannot believe that I did not do this earlier; it is like having a new device. Everything runs great (including my Garmin software which was the most important). It actually runs better then her HTC!!!
If you are hesitant, I say just do it. Follow the youtube video and it is easy.
Thanks for the change of heart Chris, without Aximsite's guidance I wouldn't have ever tried this and probably stopped using the best PDA on the market.
It's funny isnt it, I have noticed a lot of old axim users coming back to the forum, including me. Lennys ROM has breathed new life back into mine. It eventually was so bogged down by Dell's Rom I rarely picked it up. I would encourage anyone else to watch the lennys youtube upgrade and flash lennys ROM. I simply kept the video in my desktop tray and pressed play and pause as I reached over to my axim and did the steps.
