Anyone have any info on what are the major benefits of the upgrade to WM6. So far I have only read 1 or 2 on this posting but I'm sure there are others. Also can someone please comment on the software that is compatible with WM6 that is used on the WM5 platform. I assume updates are usually necessary... Isn't this one of the reasons for the post?
Ok, while you guys argue about the ethics of piracy I actually need your expertise and help. I have a new laptop with Vista and love it, I also have an axim x51v and love it, of course they don't talk to each other, so I wnet to microsofts site and downloaded and installed windows media center 6.1, which was suppose to fix the problem. the laptop still doesn't know the axim is there. WHAT can I do. My IT knowledge is basic, so please be kind. Thanks, I love the axim and want to keep using it, I DON'T want to change to a smartphone, I like having an extremely small phone that is sperate from my PDA. Thanks for any help.

Are you sure you do not mean "Windows Mobile Device Center" v.6.1?
If this is not what you downloaded, then this is what you need.
If you did download this, how are you trying to sync, it will not do WI-FI to my knowledge.
This would be better asked in a thread of its own as that way more people would benefit from the solution you find.
You will find the download for Windows Mobile Device Center Here.
WMDC is the Vista version of Active Sync, download it and install and you should have no trouble connecting to your Ax.
Make sure your firewall is configured to allow a connection.
If you have any problems, post a new thread. or read some of the many threads that already answer your question for you.
This is childish. Everyone attacking Chris and the staff should remember that w/o this site then their Ax's might not be usable right now.
Here's something to consider: I'd like to know all these "do gooders" Who wouldn't hack or modify anything. How many of them use a reg edit program? Wouldn't Dell consider this illegal?
Chris, You have made the right choice in moving forward and allowing the evolution of the Axim. I applaud you and your staff. I know this was a difficult decision. Thanks again!
"What really sucks about all this is that I am going to get beat up no matter what I do. Which ever way I decide."
Don't worry about it. You live in the U.S.A., right? That's part of freedom of speech; people can criticise the authorities however they want, though hopefully and ideally they do it intelligently. Of course people are going to disagree with what they do; they have different viewpoints and different situations.
If you don't like this whole thing of people criticising authority figures and their decisions, you could always move to China, or North Korea :)
"Anyone have any info on what are the major benefits of the upgrade to WM6"?
WM6 and 6.1 are faster, you'll probably have more free memory, it seems to connect more quickly via Wifi, you have the emotional advantage of using the most up-to-date OS (that's an emotional advantage for me, anyway)..
Besides, doing a clean install of any OS tends to clean things up, though if you're managing your current installation properly it should theoretically be just as good as a new install plus whatever else you install directly thereafter, though practically this usually isn't so, so there's usually an increase in speed and reliability after reinstalling.
I have a bunch of software installed, and I still have 33MB of RAM free when I soft reset.
Why is it illegal?
As far as I know, you can’t buy WM6 anywhere, and the companies that still support and sell their devices offer the update free.
The changes between WM5 and WM6 are minor, at least from what I read in the reviews, so I doubt anyone will trade his/her axims for another device JUST to update the OS, so there’s no money loss to the other PDA vendors if someone update the axim. Even more, if there is software that only runs in WM6, other companies would benefit if Aximers update the OS…
It’s an honest question. Is there a lawyer that can answer why is it illegal?

And its one that's been done to death... just search back if you really want to know.
Either way, it's not going to be useful to rehash all that again... take the ruling and move on. And if you don't want to participate in wm6 discussions about axims that's fine too.

I think another has answered your question, but try going to Control Panel -> Sync Center. If you have the Axim plugged in it may or may not find it. If it doesn't go to windows update and you will probably have a new 'optional' piece of SW ready to download. Download it and then try and sync again.
By far Vista has been the easiest way I've been able to sync with the Axim. Back to my X5 Activesync has had lots of problems. So far the new Sync software in Vista has been excellent.
