The only relevant information is in the Original Post.
I second that motion.

Hi,

I thought Julie did close it earlier today.

My only gripe, after getting a nice explanation from Martin, is that there are two sides of this argument and neither side looks to be able to say, O.K. I understand where you are coming from, please understand my position also.

People are not always going to see things the same way but do not trash them or their opinions for being different.

Thanks for the thread reopening because I wanted to post this earlier and could not.

On the other hand, I don't see people insulting either over any differences, either. I see the aspect of legality and understand the people who consider it to be stealing, but still disagree with their position. There's nothing wrong with people arguing vehemently over differences, and I don't see any opinion trashing, just explanations of differing viewpoints.

All your useless points aside.

Each and every copy of the software requires a license and fee from Microsoft.

If you did not buy a license, the copy you have is pirated.

Ask yourself the same question (and apply the same useless arguments) in regards to: DOS6.1, WIN95, WIN98, Win2000, XP, Vista, DVD Movies, Music, Books, Art, Patents and Intellectual property.

Just because Microsoft has not noticed or complained about it yet does not make it any more or less right.

I agree with keet above - it's really people just discussing their differences. I see no reason to close it. It should just die a 'natural death' like all other posts... let it continue until no one wants to post anymore.

That's exactly what we're doing (i.e. allowing it to die a natural death.)

I would suggest, however, that those with new and substantive questions about WM6 (installing, using, etc) start a separate thread.

Problem with Contacts

Hi I flashed my X51v to Winmo 6.1. Huge improvement!! Faster, and far more stable.

One thing, after connecting to Activesync, not all of my contacts moved over. Has anyone else observed this and if so is there any advice?

Thanks:approve:

scmidlap,

If you look at the post immediately above yours, I suggested:

I have been running WM6 and WM6.1 (eight different ROM flashing) for over 4 months now. In none of the flashing did I loose any information. I used Spb Backup application to store PIM, My Documents, and Email information on a external card (SDHC in my case) and then restored it after each re flashing. No issues at any time during those 8 ROM flashing. :approve:

Downgrade back to wm2003SE/WM5

Hey all,

I'm reading as much as possible about upgrading my X50V to wm6.
Don't want it to be bricked or instable.
The only thing I couldn't find anywhere is if it's possible to dowgrade it back to wm5 or wm2003se.
Could somebody tell me how to do this, so I know there will be a way back if I don't like wm6 at all.

Thanks

WM 6 is the completion of the Promise Dell made For the X50V
WM 2003 WAS GREAT BUT ANY Upgrades were not functional my purchase of wm2003 and the Axim X50V would have been Reduced to obsolete status without Wm-6

Can you point to where Dell stated to provide WM6 for the x50V?

Most companies do not make statements like this.

Check Sony and the Clie'.

M$ Windows stolen & modified intellectual property!

As someone who upgraded my x51v to Football's WM6, other than the initial fear of bricking my unit, I had no qualms whatsoever, and here's why:

1. As stated earlier, where it is legally being offered, it is offered as a FREE upgrade. Yes for those who purchased a WM6 unit a portion of the cost went to M$ in licensing fees but they will in all likelihood receive FREE upgrades for WM7 and beyond. They will only pay that licensing fee ONCE at the time of purchase. Just as I did when I purchased my brand new x51v from Dell in 2006. Hence, I am not denying M$ addt money.

2. If my memory serves me correctly, wasn't it Bill Gates and M$ that basically hacked and modified Steve Jobs' windows-based OS to create Windows. As far as I'm concerned this was a clear case of hijacking Steve Jobs' intellectual property. Do not tell me Mr Gates' above actions have not deprived Steve Jobs and Apple of sales and income they would have otherwise likely recieved had M$ not hacked the Apple OS at that time. If you ask me, that behavior was significantly more aggregious than any of the hacked WM6/WM6.1 taking place today. It just proves John Lennon was correct: "Karma's gonna get you." In Bill Gates' case it has now come back and bit him in the A$$, and I couldn't be happier! :)

Dell made a promise to provide a upgrade to WM6?

Admittedly while I did not read all the posts, it sounds like the WM5 upgrade was at least problematic for most posts that I did read.

How is your x50v obsolete?

Did the upgrade give you 802.11G? 802.11N? Bluetooth 2.0? BT 2.1?

Did the upgrade allow usage of HDSD cards?

Admittedly there may be SOME software titles released for JUST WM6.x, but I think it would be more of the exception rather than the rule.

Exactly, what was obsolete about your X50v that WM6 fixes?
