Aximsitewifiicon Internet Sharing

Hi Everyone,

I have a Dell Axim X51v (WM6) just to help some of you out...

Let me tell you what I would like to do, but how is it possible...

I have a desktop computer sitting on my desk right now. It's running Windows Vista (32-bit). I have Windows Mobile Device center installed, and working....

I would like to take my PDA, connect the PDA to the internet (WIFI), and put the PDA on the dock, and let Vista connect up to the PDA. While doing this, it would be great to know how to let Vista use my PDA's internet, so this desktop can finally have an internet connection...

I have played around with the Internet Sharing app in the program folder, but to all of my advantage, it did not work. I put the setting on USB under PC Connecting, and then Network Connection just says . And to make this a bit harder, the softkey on the bottom left, the one that says connect, is grayed out...

Is there any way to get an internet connection from my PDA to this desktop?

If there is no way, looks like I will just have to buy a WIFI card....

Thanks,
Taylor

So you don't pay for your own internet connectivity? You're using someone else's wi-fi connection and stealing their bandwidth? Hmmmmm

No!

I would never do that! I pay for my own RoadRunner High Speed Connection...

Just please, stick to the topic.... Besides, I would not even guess on how you inferred that... I just want to get a desktop connected to the internet through my WIFI on my PDA that's connected to my home router....

I do not think that's possible... I searched all over the web... But hey, it does make sense if someone would want to do it.

You're right, it would be a good thing, but I don't think it's possible.
Even if it was I think it would be very slow.
For the price of a wifi dongle (they are pretty cheap nowadays) you would have a much better connection for your desktop.

My laptop, the Dell C610, already has WIFI... Or I could use a crossover cable... But, this isn't the thread for that.

I was just wondering if this was possible. But, I guess it is not. Looks like I'll have to go to Best Buy, and pick a wireless card up...

Well guys, thanks anyways. Maybe it is something for Microsoft to think of in the near future of Windows Mobile. But the PDA does get a 10mbps connection over WIFI, so it really isn't worth it when you put it down to all of the details.

Sorry! My bad. :o A perfect example of why one should never assume. I just didn't see any reference to a home router, or any router of yours for that matter, in the first post.

Not a problem.

But, if no one should never assume, the Weather Channel would be out of business... Yeah, but they do use science behind it... Well, back to the topic again.

Yeah, every house pretty much has a router of some kind now-in-days... But, some don't...

I wanted to connect my PDA up to the Vista running desktop through USB, and some how get Vista to detect my PDA's WIFI, and use it's internet connection. I am not talking about peer-to-peer. The desktop has no WIFI... A friend lent me his WIFI USB card, so I'm using that to update to SP1, and get such drivers. But, I'll get a WIFI card soon for myself.

Check out this thread: dial-up Internet Sharing over Wi-Fi!

I have not tried this but it does look like it does what you're looking for.
