Bootloader version for WM6.1

After reading this from Microsoft Time/Clock Blog:

Edit: I've been told that you can tell which AKU you're on. If you go to Start->Settings->System->About it will list the build number as something like xxxxx.2.0.0. The numbers after the first five digits is the AKU number. So that example is AKU2.0. The registry key went into 2.2, which will show up as xxxxx.2.2.0.

and this from Makuu on Aximsite:

Note : At this step, you must select a rom that fits with your bootLoader. If your axim get bricked while upgrading to aku 2.3.1 then if the bootLoader upgrade went fine you probably need an aku 2.3.1 ROM.
Otherwise you will need an aku 1.1 rom

Do I need to change my bootloader (x51v, A12 ROM, WM5.0 build 14957.1.1.3) before installing WM6.1?

Just make sure you read all you can of this process, backup your PIM data and all other files that you wish to keep. I do this on a SD card. This process will remove all files that are currently on your unit and replace them with those files that are contained within the ROM upgrade.
