Can only Boot to Blue Dell Logo Sceen

Today, I found my wife's old X51, that she stopped using when she got her CrackBerry. I'm not sure which model it is.

Anyway, after charging it for a few hours, I tried to turn it on. All I get is the blue screen, with the Dell logo.

I tried a soft reset, nothing happened. Tried a hard reset, which after pressing the key to continue, took me back to the same blue screen. The only way out, is to pull the battery, as the power switch doesn't work.

After searching here a while, I found the tip on how to get to the diagnostics. Well, the 1st couple of tests run fine, and then I get to the one that checks all the keys. I can get a "passed" response from all the keys, except the "reset". Which is crazy, because the "reset" had to work for me to get to the diagnostics in the first place. Plus the hard resets.

I even tried pulling the battery for a few hours, to make sure the backup capacitor discharged as well. Still no change.

So, does any one have any ideas what might be going on here, and how do I resurrect this thing.

Cheers,
Eddie

Wow - that's definitely a strange problem. You might try removing the main battery for about an hour. That will drain the backup battery, which is supposed to last about 30 minutes. Then, reinstall the main battery and turn it on.

You might also want to do a search here for "dead axim". It may give you some other ideas.

Did you try the search yet? I know there's one thread about dealing with a bricked Axim.

Maybe try to flash your ROM (look for a new rom and flash from SD card) maybe the bootloader works but your problem is definitively weird...

I think you still have to have some charge in the battery for the Axim to boot. Since I've never run mine down to 0 - I don't know for sure. :o

I do know as the main battery ages, it discharges faster. :(

Yes, but I haven't had time to do through all the threads yet.

Except I've noticed that you need to know what you current level is before trying this technique. Until I get it booted, I can't confirm what it currently is. Unless I've misunderstood what I've read so far.

Nope, the battery still holds a charge. Plus I've tried with the device connected to power.

Cheers,
Eddie

Have you tried going into diagnostic mode?
Hold Record button and Power button then do regular soft reset.

If I just power it on normally, I get as far as the "Blue screen". To "exit" this, I pull the battery.

If I use the "magic key combination", from the Blue screen, or to power it on, I get to the diagnostics.

Cheers,
Eddie
