I originally stayed with WM5 A12. Then I decided to switch to WM6.1 (makuu's priv 6). Played with it for 2 days, everything worked fine (including WPA-PSK, etc), but I couldn't really find anything that I didn't have on WM5. HTML e-mail and PIE Zoom/Pan are more of a nuisance than useful features (plus 3rd part apps have it implemented much more professionally). What I didn't like is the way fonts werescaled in PIE on WM6.1 (pages looked less readable and mature than on WM5 PIE). So after 2 days of playing I went back to WM5 A12 (I had prepared A12 NB0 file from IMG ahead of time to do that). I satisfied my curiosity and now content with what I have...
I have to agree with the assessment of HTML e-mail and PIE. Since I use those apps just about as much as anything, I like the straight-forward design of the WM5 Messaging app. The HTML e-mail was a pain. I reverted back to WM5, too.
I used WM6.0 (Lenny's rework of Football's original ROM) for months. Stable and faster than WM5.
I just upgraded to Lenny's WM6.1 beta 2.1 yesterday. Seems to be just as stable. The biggest difference (at first glance) is that the very annoying password screen bug that was in 6.0 got fixed in 6.1. It's worth to use it for this fix alone.
My RAM after installing Widcomm stack, PocketBreeze, Calligrapher and PocketController (and a few Today plugins in PocketBreeze tabs (CashOrganizer, SPB Backup)- don't know if it makes them consume less memory) is 27 MB at start-up.
Can you use calligrapher on this version? I installed Lennysh WM 6.1 UC rom (beta4) on my x51v but Calligrapher (8.6) doesn't run...
Can someone tell me on what WM version (6.0 or 6.1) I can use calligrapher (8.3 or 8.6)? Thanks

For calligrapher (i dont use it): Someone in LennySh forum says that calligrapher works on Beta3. So go back to beta3 if calligrapher is important to you

I went back to beta3 but it doesn't run anyway...
Thank you

I am contemplating whether or not I should upgrade my WM5, A12 ROM on my Dell Axim X51V.
2. Will I have more free program memory in either on of these options compared to WM5? (I am currently running low on memory, with an average of 15MB free)
3. Is there a software compatibility list somewhere that I can check out? I am wondering if my purchased applications and games will function on the new ROM.
4. Which ROM version would you recommend for me?
Thank you!
Edit: A WM6.1 software compatibility list is being built in post #10 below.
While I'll admit 1st off that I'm no fan of WM6.x, from the best accounts you might pick up a few MB of extra RAM on a hard reset over A12.
The real question IMHO is why you only have ~15MB free?
and secondly what are you not able to do with 15MB that 17-18MB you might be able to do?
I have two 1GB cards installed in my Axim (1-SD, 1-CF) and install ALL programs onto the SD card. Last I peeked the free RAM is only 1-2MB less then what I started with on a hard reset.
If you are installing giant programs or data files into main memory, WM6.x is not going to gain you much of anything. Which brings us back to the first two questions.
Given that you only have ~15MB free, is a handfull of MB really going to make anything work that was not working?

Astraware's Sudoku and Solitaire both work. Patiences Gold (another solitaire collection), works, as well as Astraware's Bejeweled 2/Text Twist/Casino, and Uno Classic. For apps, SPB Time, SBHB Pocket Weather, iSilo, Videolist/Bookbag, and both PocketCalc and PocketClock.
As for the original post, I'm running one of Lenny's 6.1 roms, my 16gb SDHC card is working perfectly. I have noticed speed improvements on loading programs and menus over wm5. Some of the programs that ran slowly or choppily now run smoothly. Takes less time to establish a wifi connection to my router.
On the cons side, my bt keyboard and mouse seems to take 2 attempts to pair them both up at the same time. I will it to connect to the mouse, establish the connection, go to the keyboard, tell it to pair up, and after it's done I go back to use the mouse and it's disconnected. If I reconnect the mouse though, everything works at that point. I haven't had the chance to really test if I have the same problem if I pair up the keyboard first, but since the TO driver was written for 5 and not 6 that might be part of it. My hellium digital bt headphones drop sound and skip with the MS stack, so I need to try to put the broadcom stack on.
Even so, I wouldn't go back to wm5, I'm loving 6.1 and I'm loving my 16gb sd card.
Just an FYI: there is a known product incompatibility (on the Lenny forum, search for it) with Skyscape and certain medical Skyscape programs that contain images (Pocket EKG is one of them). The images don't refresh and are not shown on screen. Lenny is aware of it.
