I am contemplating whether or not I should upgrade my WM5, A12 ROM on my Dell Axim X51V.
1. Do you think I should upgrade to WM6.1, or should I upgrade to WM6 which is more "mature" ?
2. Will I have more free program memory in either on of these options compared to WM5? (I am currently running low on memory, with an average of 15MB free)
3. Is there a software compatibility list somewhere that I can check out? I am wondering if my purchased applications and games will function on the new ROM.
4. Which ROM version would you recommend for me?
Thank you!
Edit: A WM6.1 software compatibility list is being built in post #10 below.

1) WM6
2) At start up my unit registers 28.11 MG of free memory using WM6
3) I have not found any WM5 application that does not work on WM6 OS, thats not to say there may be some that do not work I just have not heard of any from this site or other WM6 ROM publishing sites.
I originally stayed with WM5 A12. Then I decided to switch to WM6.1 (makuu's priv 6). Played with it for 2 days, everything worked fine (including WPA-PSK, etc), but I couldn't really find anything that I didn't have on WM5. HTML e-mail and PIE Zoom/Pan are more of a nuisance than useful features (plus 3rd part apps have it implemented much more professionally). What I didn't like is the way fonts werescaled in PIE on WM6.1 (pages looked less readable and mature than on WM5 PIE). So after 2 days of playing I went back to WM5 A12 (I had prepared A12 NB0 file from IMG ahead of time to do that). I satisfied my curiosity and now content with what I have...
The main thing that I am trying to improve is my free program memory.
With WM5, A12, immediately after HR I had about 29MB free, but currently I am hovering around 16MB or so.
A) Will any of the WM6 ROMs improve on this?
B) Does WM6 support SDHC cards like WM6.1?
C) rlarson_mn: does the number of 28.11MB free memory refer to immediately after HR?
D) Also, I would appreciate your input on which ROM is recommended for me.
After a soft reset, I have 31.5mb free, and that is with 7 today screen items added. (Metrix2, Today Warrior, MyIP2005, WeatherToGo, Calendar for PokeP, Launcher, and Pocket Informant.)
I am able to read my 4gb SDHC card just fine.
This ROM has been more compatible with some of the programs I use, than other WM6x ROM I tried. Before, I had trouble with Virtual Earth, GoogleMaps, and a few others that had a dependency on .NetCF. But this ROM runs them just fine.
If you have any applications that you are particularly concerned about, list them so that other WM6x users can give you their specific experiences.
I used WM6.0 (Lenny's rework of Football's original ROM) for months. Stable and faster than WM5.
I just upgraded to Lenny's WM6.1 beta 2.1 yesterday. Seems to be just as stable. The biggest difference (at first glance) is that the very annoying password screen bug that was in 6.0 got fixed in 6.1. It's worth to use it for this fix alone.
My RAM after installing Widcomm stack, PocketBreeze, Calligrapher and PocketController (and a few Today plugins in PocketBreeze tabs (CashOrganizer, SPB Backup)- don't know if it makes them consume less memory) is 27 MB at start-up.
Amamba, why did you need the Widcomm stack for WM6.1? I've not yet encountered anything I can't do with the standard stack from Lenny's beta 2.1 ROM...
This is very interesting to me. It sure sounds like LennySH's WM 6.1 ROM is the way to go for me as far as free program memory is concerned.
Would it be possible for anyone to PM me with a link to this ROM please? I wouldn't want to risk installing a wrong ROM (I am very new at this).

My BT GPS receiver doesn't pair under MS stack. Has been that way with any ROM I tried (they probably don't change the stack ROM to ROM). Works wonderfully with Widcomm. This is the only reason.
Just upgraded my x51v to Lennysh 6.1 and its much more responsive than wm5 A12. No issues with many apps I've installed so far. Only had few lockups during the install marathon but no problems once all is said and done. Once you've used it you'll never want to go back.
To the person above that went back to wm5, it seems he was more "used" to wm5 and didn't give the new os enough time. In any case, personal tastes aside, core improvements to the OS just can't be ignored.
