Device name (in Device ID) keeps changing

I have an Axim X51v running WM5. I recently got a new laptop running Vista. I am seeing a strange thing when I sync my X51v. I am syncing using USB. It appears that the Device name on the About | Device ID screen keeps getting changed from what i set it to (Franks_PDA) to generic name like WINDOWSMOBILExx where xx is a number. I still seem to be able to sync ok, I don't get asked to set up a new partnership. I wonder if my files are getting synced, since the laptop directory is based on the Device name. Also, it may be affecting my ability to connect via Bluetooth. Any suggestions or tips?

I think its on your axim active sync connection settings. check programs/ active sync /menu/options/settings. I'm not sure if this is the correct area. It was so long ago when I looked it up.

I had the same problem with my work PC (XP) and the home PC (Vista). I remember that I had to delete the partnership on the Vista PC, rename the PPC then create a new partnership. For some reason it initially wants to rename the PPC.

In my opinion, unless you are syncing between two pcs, it should not be a problem. Regarding the Bluetooth, I would think that the pairings are based upon MAC addresses and not the device name. I could be wrong and there are plenty of smart people in this forum who will correct this if necesssary.
