Comp. won't recognize X51 anymore

Hi all, I've got an Axim X51 that I've been using the last couple of years (very basic uses, not an expert) and all of a sudden I can't get my desktop or my laptop to recognize the X51 anymore (via USB). I've been using ActiveSync with no problems in the past. I'm not an expert with these things by any stretch and was wondering if I inadvertently changed a setting or something. There is a little "X" under the back and forth arrows at the top of the screen. I'm assuming that means there's no communication? My Q smartphone still works fine on both computers, so ActiveSync seems to be working fine. I didn't intentionally change any settings that I know of . Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated!! Is there some way to delete the existing connections and re-configure things? I'm at a loss as a newbie. Sorry!

Additional thought: Is it likely that there is a problem with the USB cord? It has just been sitting on my desk, not a lot of rough use or anything. I don't have a cradle, just the cord USB cable it came with.
