Any reason to upgrade from WM2003SE?

I have Dell Axim X50v with Windows Mobile 2003 SE (v 4.21.1088 (build 14260.2.0.5) if that has any importance)

I am curious if I would gain any particular advantages by upgrading to WM5 or WM6? If so which ones in particular?

I do see that one member wants to downgrade - Help to Downgrade my X50v to WM2003SE

details:
I do want to note that I find the device to at times spontaneously reboot or report a memory error and do a hard reset! This was very often (1x a week) until I reinforced the battery on the back - now it's a very rare occurrence (1x / 4 months), but still feels very unsafe to keep important data in it...

So initially because of this problem I have resorted to using the device strictly as a media player (of .avi and .mp3 files...) as I just install TCPMP and it's back to normal...

so I was wondering if an OS upgrade may remedy this problem, but I guess it's hardware related?

Thank you so much...

WM5 and 6 have perpetual memory, so that if the unit loses all power it won't erase your programs if you stored them in "main memory". If you choose not to upgrade, then you use a good backup program like SPB Backup or Sprite Backup, then you could always restore any lost info.

I would upgrade if I could, but it's not real compelling.

I'm not a huge fan of upgrading just because I can: I work on the principle that, if it works, don't fix it. That said, I like WM5 on my iPAQ but I'm not convinced that it's made me more productive or changed the way that I use my pda. Moreover, how will you feel if you brick your X50V during the upgrade process (it's not unheard of).

A lot of members have upgraded and seem very happy with the results, so it may just be that I'm over-cautious :) Stevenator is quite correct when he says that your device should be backed up regularly - we've all experienced random crashes and rued the fact that our last backup is six months old! Moreover, regular (daily) backups negates the unease people experience when storing valuable data on their pda. You can backup to a card, so restoring your device can be done on the move!

I'm with Jogga. Stay with 2003se. Lots of programs available. :)

Put your files on CF or SD cards, do backups regularly, and you shouldn't have any problems. :approve:

I've only done one "hard" reset and that was right after I bought it new just to see what happens. I have done quite a few "soft" resets. :o

Hello,

I bricked my X50v trying to update to WM5, bought an X51v, bought another X50v, the X50v with 2003 is still my favorite, I do backups every week and sync to my Desktop 3 to 4 times daily. I've never lost any data.

thank you everyone good info

I think I'll stick to WM 2003 SE

as I have Blackberry on Verizon as a PDA - most stable and powerful phone after dozens I've tried...

And I have iPaq 4155 with WM5 - where I have all the software installed and etc... but I have not used it in months :( - just too many things to carry around with me all the time... I can't... so it's sitting at home...

Thank you...
