Maximum limit on regular SD cards

I have a Dell Axim X50v with WM2003SE and no frills added. I am currently using a 1G CF card and a 2G SD card. I know that under these circumstances, it will read a 4G SD card and that is it. But what about a regular 8G SD card, not an SDHC card? Can these be read? Or must I upgrade the OS to read the regular 8G SD cards? Thanks

There are very few Non HC 4G cards still out there. I know Transcend sells one, but don't know of any other vendors.

As for 8G and up, I think those are ALL SDHC. I am not sure the standard SD format can handle memory sizes that large.

Therefore, if I am right, then to use an 8G card the device would need to support SDHC.

On that ebay link, the picture of the card is quite obviously and not very professionally photoshopped. No manufacturer is mentioned. He is also selling 11 of them currently and has sold 30 more in the last 2 weeks, each identical apparently. I would be very dubious about that card working at all, let alone if it is 8G or SDHC/non HC.

Again, I could be wrong, but I think if it IS 8G it has to be SDHC, no matter what the bad photoshop job or label may say.

I agree. Too many ppl being ripped on Ebay for memory cards. :(

I have a 8gb SD card that works fine in my X51V. I also have a 16gb SDHC card that works also. :approve:

But your using the LennySh WM6.1 ROM aren't you. One thing we've found from experimenting with these cooked ROMs is that SDHC compatiblity is a software issue not a hardware one on the X51vs. I'm not sure if the same applies for X50vs.

I'll check over at Lenny's place and see what the consensus is there.

Due to fraud and counterfeit cards I would NEVER EVER buy flash memory on ebay...

I would agree with you. There are to many other professional sites that have memory cards for sale for nearly the same price if not less. Do a google search and you should find tons of them. :approve:

And from yesterday - it works in my Axim X50v :approve: all 8GB

Well I can show you lots of people who bought cheap flash memory where the seller 'Says' it works... but it either doesn't, or can't hold the full capacity... or can't read the first 2GB once there is more that 2GB on the card.

I can also show you loads of websites that offer free Ipods/Wii/money from nigerian dictators... and people claim they work :hide:

Flash memory is incredibly easy to fake... and it will take a bit of time to realise that it doesn't work fully.....

Have you filled all 8gb with data yet?

There have been many cases where the card will say 8gb available and files will stay on it. But, once you get over 1gb or 2gb of files it will stop working.

If your card does work for all 8, then consider yourself lucky. B/c we arent being overly cautious when we say not to buy flash memory on ebay. There are numerous cases of the situation i explained above.
