dell Axim V51 not syncronyzing

Hi

I have a new Dell Axim V51 from a few years which I've decided finally to use it now. I'm not able to syncronize it with the PC.
I'm using Microsoft Active Sync ver4.1.0 built 4841 (from the original CD) and the palm has OS ver 3.10 build 20954

When I'm connecting the craddle cable to USB, it's installing a network adapter named Windows mobile-based device, but the active sync software reports "connecting" and nothing happents.

Any clue ?

thx

Do you mean x51v?
Which ROM version are you using? I had this problem until I upgraded to ROM version A12 and disabled Advanced USB in USB to PC in connections tab of settings. Also might help if upgrade to later version of activesync from microsoft website unless you are using vista when you should use windows mobile device centre

Yes, x51V ROM versionA01 (08250500).
I'm not using vista but XP proffesional SP2 and the problem appears on two different computers. From time to time on one of them (XP SP1) is synchronizing.
Where can I get from the A12 ROM version ?

There are issues with ActiveSync and firewalls. You may have to give access to your sync process in your firewall. I did! :approve:

Start --> Settings --> Connections --> USB to PC.

There is a check box here "Enable advanced network functionality"

If it is checked then uncheck it & try to sync.

If it is unchecked then check it & try to sync.

Not exactly sure what it does but this has gotten me a couple of times.

That option wasn't introduced until the later ROM versions.

Even with A12 I had to do a soft-reset on mine once to get my machine to recognize that it was there so that it would sync with it.

It partnered and synced the first time, but after that it wouldn't. The soft reset let it sync again. Not sure what the problem was. I figure something went wrong on the PPC itself and it needed to 'reboot'.

Occasionally I have to restart my PC as well before activesync will work. Sometimes resync helps by closing activesync on the pc and restarting it and a soft reset is often needed as well. Activesync is not the most stable of programs. This is a link to resync.
