Where do I stand now with an x50v

I'm not clear what my options are now. My x50v won't sync on two XP Pro machines and it doesn't seem to be hardware related.
I'm running WM2003 and was on Active Sync 4.0. I upgraded to 4.5 with no luck.
The Axim gets recognized as new hardware. It seems to be related to an MS update, as it quit connecting to one PC that gets automatic updates and then later to my laptop which I update manually.

Any suggestions on any fixes would be greatly appreciated. I'm kind of lost without it.

Thanks

Morning,

My setup is exactly like yours, I'm using Activesync 4.1.0 build 4841 on my XP. I also update my desktop and laptop automatically. I have not had any issues at all, everything continues to work very well.

My first action would be to completely delete activesync from the XP, shut down the computer, reboot and reinstall activesync, its possible one of the updates affected Activesync, but which one??.

If that doesn't work I would do a hard reset on the X50v, sync with the XP and reinstall your software on the X50v. Or do you have a complete backup using software like Spb Backup, I have found I can go back to these backups after I do a hard reset and its like using System Restore on your XP to go back to an earlier date before the problem began.

In the text notes that accompanies the Spb Backup file I note changes that I made to software, etc on the X50v so I can keep track of which backup I want to go back to.

Have a Great Day, Jim

Check the firewall settings. M$ has started to try to protect users better, and one of the updates may have closed the ports that A/S needs.

Sounds like good advice. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I tried everything suggested and what did the trick was the hard reset. I've had my x50 since they came out and have never had to do a hard reset, so I was a little intimidated by it I guess.
I should probably buy a used one as a back up.

Thanks again for the help.

I am running Vista. And the same here. I have to turn off my firewall. And I did not used to have to. Only changes have been Microsoft updates. No big deal for me. I just disconnect from the network, shut down the firewall, sync, restart the firewall, reconnect to the network. I get all the other PDA updates (e.g.: Weather, RSS, eMail) via WiFi, not via sync, anyway.

I used to have to reinstall the USB driver for my X50V now and again back when I ran XP.
