I painted it with gloss black engine paint

I know, I know you can hear banjos in the background, but it works pretty well. Ive had good experience with it painting plastic and metal parts compared to the Krylon paint thats made for plastics and Testor's model paint, they just don't seem as durable. I did 3 coats black paint, and one coat of Krylon triple clear on top to protect the paint from chipping and make it look extra glossy. I used those because they just happened to be around the house and I was in the mood.
I am very happy with it, my Eee Pc and cellphone are also black (no, I didn't paint those). Initially, I tried to mask it with tape and paint it, because I was afraid to take it apart, but I missed a fraction of an inch on the edges, and I was very cautious about getting any on the screen so I took it apart to get the parts I missed. It's easier than I thought just a few t security screws on the back and the front face pulls off.
I can understand your reservations my x50v is my baby and I was nervous the entire time. Still have to tape off the bottom part where the x50v logo part is and its a weird shape but nothing tooooo terrible as long as your careful..
