Password Trap

So I decided to sync my X51 to my new work PC, and downloaded ActiveSync 4.5 (previously had used 3.5 I think). As it was going through its first synchronization to the Outlook mail server, up pops a prompt on the PDA saying that I need to password protect the unit due to a "new policy" - not sure if this was a work policy or a Microsoft policy.

So I figure I'll go ahead and put in a password, to get through this process, then go back and forget about synchronizing to Outlook, delete the relationship, and just be a "guest" on my PC from now on.

Now the "policy" wants an EIGHTEEN character password, complete with numbers, punctuation, and/or capitalization. I thought they were joking, maybe a typo? Maybe meant 8 characters? Nope - 18 characters!

Like an idiot, I put in an 18 character password. Oh, and the "policy" requires that this damn password be entered after ONE MINUTE of non-usage!!

Ok. So I'm disgusted, and I proceed to cancel the synchronization, delete the "relationship", and turn back to the PDA to kill off the password. Only I can't! Under the Settings / Lock icon, the option to change the password protocol (to "no password") is GREYED OUT! Nor can I change the timeout period!

Does anyone know of a way out of this, other than the inevitable hard reset?

Do a hard reset and it should wipe out the password completely.
