When I loaded the rom from the SD, it read the card and then prompted me to do a hard reset( I didn't use the wireless button).
After the hard reset the Del screen came on then the windows mobile.
When I loaded two different versions of WM 6 rom, two slightly different GREEN Windows Mobile screens came up before the machine went into its convulsions as I described.
Thanks for the reply and the consideration for my problem.
I need my machine, but I fear the worst.
I assume you had your unit running on AC when you did the ROM flash. I also assume that the ROM flash process completed with the request for you to do a 'hard reset'. It is possible you did not get a complete download of the ROM files you used or that they are corrupt for some reason. I would suggest you do a compete new download of the ROM flash files you want to use, remove all of the ROM files that are not on your SD card and then place the new downloaded files onto that card and start your flash upgrade again.
Make sure that the ROM flash files you download match your unit number (example X51V within the file name).
Thanks again for your assistance in trying to solve my probem.
Addressing your questions:
AC power was used.
A hard reset was requested and accomplished.
(BTW - When I held the power button down, the diagnostics procedure started up and everything checked out just fine.
I downloaded and flashed 3 different versions of rom (WM5 and WM6). ( Green screen came up for WM6 on both versions)
I format the SD card every time.
The .nbo files always have "AximX51v" in the file name.
My Axim acts the same after the new rom is installed as it did before the new rom. To turn it off I have to remove the battery.
Yes.
The "Blue Dell Screen -> Windows Mobile screen->Blue Dell screen-> Windows Mobile...ad nauseum" problem started before I started messing with the rom.
Installing the new rom seems to go just fine, but it does not solve the original problem.
Sorry if my first post was unclear.
How I do a hard reset:
Hold down power button while pushing and releasing the reset button with the stylus.
If you had the issue prior to the ROM flashing then it sounds like a hardware issue with your unit not a software issue with the ROM currently flashed on your unit. Sorry!
