Can we go back to WM5 if we have upgraded to WM6 ?
Is the upgrade from WM5 to WM6 legal?
Yes, for first question. On second question, depends who you ask. But this site used to block discussion on WM6 for X51Vs and no longer does this, so perhaps it's not an issue anymore.
I would like to try, but would like more detail on what happens afterwards...
So, I am getting ready to try the upgrade, but I'd like to understand what happens after the new WM6 roms are flashed onto my 51v...
1) flash WM6 rom
2) re-install previous programs...some questions here:
-- I assume it does not matter if you installed them on internal memory or SD/CF card?
-- Or, only re-install those programs that were on internal memory?
-- if reinstalling all, what is best way to remove programs but leave data intact on flash cards? First uninstall programs before flashing?
3) re-load PIM data. I assume after flashing to new ROM, I can just run ActiveSync and recover my PIM data? I am currently using AS4.2.0 (build 4876). Do I need to upgrade AS and sync my data before flashing ROM?
Hey, I don't use this forum very often so I'll post whenever possible. I can't believe I'm getting so many replies :)
m_mcgover, I see you are going to try the upgrade. I'll give some details on this.
First-you have to make an inventory of what programs you installed. That is is you have many of em.
Second-be sure you backed up you PIM. Either via the default backup&restore or use a 3rd party program like SPB backup. I have no experience with Activesync (I use Windows Vista). I don't know if it backups up PIM data. You do NOT need to upgrade AS to flash ROM. Just get the PIM data backed up
Third-You need a blank SD card to copy the ROM files on.
Fourth-As of the programs. Programs usually run fastest via internal memory. But SD/CF card works also. Some programs only work on internal memory, refer to the readme files of those programs.
Fifth-It is rather hard to uninstall the program and leave the data intact. Some program have a single data file. In that case, that data file can be copied and restored. But I suggest recording down the settings/data.
Lastly-No, you do not need to uninstall the programs before flashing.
Well, there is my 2-cent on the topic. Since I do not use this forum very often (I should), I would be grateful if you guys can PM me about this. Since I get the PMs by E-Mail.
oh, and thanks a lot stevenator65!

I realized that Lenny DID NOT post the Stock (Dell) and Barebones edition for L10. I will edit my post. The main differences are just the extra goodies like games, default backup/restore, PocketRAR, etc.
Anyone know when L11 is gonna be out for public?

Dude, that was a great review! Thanks for taking the time to make and post it. I am just getting an hx ipaq 4705, and it would be awesome if you could do the same review for it. Of course, I'm sure you just have a dell, so I won't cross my fingers. Great job!
Unfortunately, the iPaq was given to me by my company and used for work. So using experimental ROMs are a No-no.
On the other hand, My Axim has been... hmmm, let's see. Bricked at least 7-8 times, used over 10 different ROMS, dropped countless times.

At this time L11 is at beta 4 (very stable and very fast) with beta 5 due out this week for final testing (with several new surprises promised) is the last word I have gotten. :approve:

From your review you wrote, you say the Football's ROM is more stable, and a better battery life. I don't care about the "crapware" also. I find it quite helpful though...
But then, the review said that Lenny's ROM is faster (even the L11 ROM is faster than the L10), but you're loosing battery life faster.
Here's the thing I am concerned with:
-Battery Life. Because I use my PDA everywhere; daily agenda and everything. Battery life is important to me. ;) But, how much less battery life does Lenny's ROM get? (Battery Drain FYI) If it's a little less, maybe 30 minutes, or an hour; I would switch to Lenny's ROM (I'm using Football's ROM).
-Speed. It's really important for me. If I need to whip out a quick note, I would like to do it fastest as possible. And, I hear that Lenny's L11 ROM is the fastest now. So, I'm still concerned with battery life of all the speed.
-Stability! Seriously, it's probably the most important out of all of these three. Football's ROM has been okay for me. It's not the best ROM because it is slow. But hey, at least it is faster than his WM5 releases... I remember those good all days...
Thanks a lot guys. I would really love to use Lenny's ROM's; but I am concerned deeply about the battery life also.

As of speed, I can confidently say that Lenny has the FASTEST ROM with L10 and L11 (L11 is only beta-testers).
The only time L10 crashed on me was when I was trying to run a 3-D game (Call of Duty 2 mobile) and running Windows Media Player together. I think it ran outta RAM.
So Lenny's ROM is the way to go. The older version tend to drain battery. But L10 and L11 exceeds Football's ROM by far.

Wow, I have 5:39! With WIFI and Bluetooth on... :)
Wow, I'm probably going to switch over...
Thanks for informing me about that. Seems very stable then! Thanks for your help!

I starting flashing the first 10 minutes after it was released. :D
Really fast ROM. I didn't know my PDA could go this fast! And, the battery life is amazing!
Thanks Lenny!

My opininon is:
Makuu's ROMs are the best if you're interressted in trueVGA and multimedia
Football's are the best one if (like me) want something clean (IR obex doesn't seems to work but Novii remote works)
LennySh are good "experimental" ROMs but some softwares maybe doesn't fit to our need. But the good point is LennySh roms are the newest roms from windows mobile market

I'm install a lot of my applications right now, everything is working fine in Lenny's L11. And, I can honestly say it is the fastest ROM for the X51v. No doubt about it. My PDA used to boot in about 50 seconds, now it boots in 21 seconds! That is fast!
