MiniSD/MicroSD to SD adapter for x51v

Hello,

I have read on this site that people have sucessfully used the SDHC to CF adapter to bypass the SDHC problems with wm5 on the x50/x51 PDAs. Has anyone tried the MiniSD/MicroSD to SD adapter? This adapter is commonly used with mobile phones since phones use MiniSD/MicroSD, and can be found at most electronic component stores. Since people have said that the SDHC to CF adapter works, i would expect the MiniSD/MicroSD to SD adapter to work as well. Because MiniSD/MicroSD have exceeded the 4gb mark, they are concidered to be MiniSDHC and Micro SDHC, but based on the story of the SDHC to CF adapter, this should work...

Has anyone tried this with a card MiniSD/MicroSD card greater than 4gb on the wm5 x50/x51?

Any feedback would be great,

I don't "Know" the answer, but my guess would be that it wouldn't work.

My reasoning: The SD adapters are just a physical resizing tool, they just move the connectors to the right place and fill the rest of the slot.
Whereas the CF adapters are converting an SD to a CF interface.
I may be wrong, but that seems logical to me.

You're confusing a conversion device with an adapter device.
The CF card that accepts the SDHC cards, converts them to CF format so you can use them on your PDA.
The SD adapters are passive hardware devices that have no electronics in them. They only convert the physical size of the device so you can use a microSD card in a full size SD slot.

So the answer is: No, you cannot use a microSD to SD adapter to run an SDHC device in your non-SDHC compatable PDA.

Hi,

Thanks for all you input guys, too bad it wouldn't work, i don't think there is going to be a SDHC driver for the x50/x51 with the origional rom for a while. All the SDHC drivers now only go up to 4gb, which i don't understand, because you can get a standard 4gb SD card that will work with the x50/x51 from the factory.

regards,

Dell won't be adding native SDHC support to their axims, officially they only support cards up to 2gb in size, so there wouldn't be a need to give SDHC support since those cards start at larger than 2gb. (Official support and what it can actually use are two different things.)

That leaves you with a few options for SDHC. Get a CF adapter, go with a card of only 4gb, or flash to one of the "cooked" 6.1 roms. (I took the flash root, and have been very happy with it. )

As for the driver that does up to 4gb, if I recall correctly, the problem is it only does 4gb on the axim, but it does up to 16gb on some of the other units that can use it. (Although, getting your hands on a 4gb card that isn't sdhc can be a bit of a pain and pricey depending where you live.)

You can get a 8gb SD card (I have one) I also have a 16gb CF memory card and a 16gb SDHC memory card, both of which are in my X51V running WM6.1 L11 :approve:

You sound to be right. A microsd/minisd is basically a sd card "chopped" into a smaller piece. That is why sd/micro/mini are all compatible with each other. So they both use the same "hc" technology. So if your device is compatible with hc in one form, it should work with hc in all forums.

I use a 2GB MIicroSD card with the SD adapter in my x50v and it works well.
I also use the memory card in my cell phone (V3m).

Don't know about 4+ GB though...
