X50 cannot enable wireless

Just bought and tried to install a Symbol CF Wireless card and didnt work - never completed the installation - now I get error messages that there is an unrecognized card in my device, even when there is no card!! But now after all this, my wireless will not enable - I try the button the side of the unit and manually under settings - nothing happens - it was working before I tried to install the card mentioned above - help!

First - Welcome to Mobility site. Lots of good info and ppl here.

As for your problem. Have you tried a soft reset? If so, try reinstalling the drivers before you put the WiFi card in the slot.

i did a soft reset - didnt work - and I try to install the drivers from the CF card but that doesnt work either....there are still some files from it on my pda that it wont let me delete - im thinking if i can delete those somehow - my wireless would work again - but maybe not.....

Usually the drivers come on a CD/DVD that you load thru your PC. I didn't think they put the drivers on the CF card itself.

sorry - i mis-typed - I downloaded all the software needed from the site where I purchased the card - i dont have a cd - but it any case - it will not let me reinstall the drivers - its says its already there - but nothing works and the wireless will not even turn on

You may want to go to the WiFi forum and search thru to see if someone has had this problem before. :exc:

thanks for trying - yep i went to the website and have all the updated drivers and software - I sent an email to symbol today to see if they can help me - even if i can get the wireless to turn on - then i would be ok - very strange. can you point me in the direction of the wifi forums - not sure how to get there

I'm a little confused, you seem to be trying to install a CF wifi card in an Axim that already has wifi, Why?

If you have installed new drivers for a different wifi setup it will probably override the original wifi setting, thus causing your inbuilt wifi to not start.

A hard reset would certainly fix it, but that is a bit drastic to start with.
Go into the settings of the wifi, start/settings/connections/wlan utility
and check what network card it is trying to use.

Wouldn't a hard reset cure this? You would just need to back up everything (important) first.
