Is the Axim x51v Still the best?
for awhile I've just been using my axim as a music player but recently discovered it was upgradable to wm6. With this upgrade, is the Axim still the best or one of the best pda's out there?

It's one of the best still, but I am glad that I upgraded to an HP 210. There are ones out there that have issues, mine is very stable and a MUCH better battery life than the x51v!

In terms of bang for the buck the X51v is still the best.

It's still one of the best pdas out there. especially since the pda market is dead. I like the Ipaq 210/211, but definately out of my price range, maybe if Dell really does get back into the pda business and offers something substantially better, but otherwise probably won't upgrade. Cant beat the price of the x50v/x51v out there if something goes wrong with it either..

It's funny, I was wondering the exact same thing. I still have an x51v and have tried the experimental rms but sometimes have trouble with it being slow, etc. Apparently, there aren't any too much faster from what I've read.

I haven't seen any big difference speed wise with any of the WM6 roms either. It comes down to people wanting the latest & greatest.

Exactly why I won't even try WM6 on my x51v (I kind of have a "wait and see" attitude when it comes to the latest and greatest). I have around 70 programs installed to main memory and use my PDA daily throughout the day and it works just fine for me. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

I used an x50v for the last 3 years. Last fall I tried out the WM5 upgrades on it over several months, but filesys.exe was a show stopper, so I went back to WM2003. Several months ago, I bought a "new" x51v on eBay (after strongly considering the HP 210), and immediately upgraded to WM6.1 (trying several ROM's from several authors), and I love it. A definite difference in performance and features exists among WM6 ROM's; they all have their pros & cons; much of it is personal preference.

I would love to hear from someone about a full side-by-side comparison of an x51v(WM6.1) and an HP 210 (dkimak?).

I have had WM6 or WM6.1 on my two X51Vs for the last 8 months. My experience has been a significant increase in speed and stability. With a WM6 version ROM loaded the X51V is still the best PDA ever (of course this is IMHO)

Unfortunately, I've given my x51v to my father, after upgrading to WM6 so I can't give a fair comparison for an HP 210 vs x51v with WM6.1.

I'll readily admit that I'm one of those people that likes leading-edge technology. Comparing the two units with WM6

HP210 has better
- battery life
- screen (brightness, clarity)
- responsiveness / performance

x51v has better
- form factor
- accessories (ok, MORE accessories)

For how I use a PDA (ebooks, GPS, photos, music, calendars and contacts), the HP 210 is a significant upgrade to the x51v. That said, the HP 210 has quality control problems, there are a lot of frustrated 210 users out there.

I just loaded Lenny sh based on the review on the other Aximsite thread... it is smoking fast.

So far anyway, I normally load so much stuff it can't help but slow down a bit.

I do miss my X51v, but I wasn't too keen on its flaky 802.11b wireless, and the fact that it didn't play nice with my particular wireless router with WPA encryption. However, I've been spoiled by my X7501's big bright screen, which was noticeably brighter and crisper than my X51v's. Nevertheless I'd be curious how the Axim would perform with a WM6.x ROM.
