Hard Reset When Battery Removed

The title pretty much speaks for itself.

At this point I pretty much think that I'm going to have to buy a new PDA. I am unable to charge my Axim with the AC cord, as the dock is no longer connected to the motherboard (the infamous x50v broken dock connector problem). For the past two years I've relied on externally charging and swapping out two batteries to keep the device charged. However, as of yesterday, I realized that each time I take out one of the batteries--even if just for a second--the PDA hard resets itself.

If someone has a solution to my problem, or knows what causes it, please help!

Sounds like your backup battery is dead.

If you don't use the cradle, how have you been charging the backup battery???

I guess it hasn't been charging :(. My warranty had just ran out when the dock broke, so I couldn't really do anything about it. I followed a guide on here earlier this year and opened up my axim, and--sure enough--the dock was off of the motherboard.

I attempted to re-solder the dock, but now it doesn't work at all.

The backup battery should be charging at the same time as the main battery. It does sound like the backup battery has gone bad. :(

A new dock would be cheaper than buying a new PDA. Or, you could buy a used AX with the dock and have a backup PDA. I think there's a couple of x50v in the classifieds you could probably buy for $100. :)

I think Id desolder the original attempt then try to resolder it. If I was successful at that I might attempt the backup battery but it would require complete disassembly of the axim, and I don't know how hard it would be to source it, though it requires no soldering..

Kcallahan's right if worse comes to worse you could probably get a used x50v for about 100 bucks on ebay..I would hate spending the money if its fixable, but at this point I'd hate to be without my axim for even a day.

I have a lot of spb software on my Axim, including spb backup. What I'm thinking about doing at this point is seeing how long I can last on one charge, and then just doing a restore every time that I have to change the battery.

Sure, it may be tedious--taking about 5 minutes--but it's worth not spending more money :\. I'm a frugal guy.

Yow! That looks bad. I have no experience with Axim Hardware so all I can say is: pity...
