I searched this and could find what i wanted so i made a new thread.
I am just wondering if a screen protector is necessary. If you think so then could you tell me what is a good brand to get. All answers are appreciated. Thanks

I think it's necessary. It's just a small amount to pay to protect an expensive screen. I like the cleartouch crystal by boxwave.com. there are many other good brands as well.

Absolutely necessary IMO. I second the suggestion of ClearTouch Crystal by Boxwave. I've had a ClearTouch Crystal on my PDA for over a year with daily use and there are only slight scratches in the protector. I use PhatPad for taking notes, so my screen gets quite a work out.

I first tried a different brand of the type that is anti-glare and didn't like it at all. The anti-glare caused the screen to not appear nearly as sharp as it should. With the ClearTouch Crystal, it is completely transparent, so there is no degradation of the clarity of the screen.

No, I don't work for or own stock in Boxwave, just a really happy customer.

I agree with the others. I'm on my second screen protector; the first one lasted a bit over a year. I use Calligrapher and write on the screen a lot; the screen protector took the scratches that are inevitable on a touch screen.

BoxWave is my brand, too, but I prefer the non-glare version--just a matter of preference.

Yes its needed. I make my own and have for over 5 years now with various PDAs both Palm and PocketPC units. I found the clear plastic material at a fabric store my wife goes to. Its 8mm thick, clear and is normally used for a table cloth cover. I got a square yard of the stuff for under a buck five years ago and have not used over 1/3 of it to date. It clings to my unit with static, is washable and wears like armor. I make a card board template of my current PDAs screen size and just cut a new one about every six months. If the top side gets to much drag then a little (very little) pledge on a rag rubbed onto the top surface does the trick. :approve:

I think that it largely depends on how much you use your device. Prolonged typing or game playing will mark your screen: a screen protector will save your screen from such damage. I wish I'd used a screen protector on my X50.

correct, sorry for the confusion.

Another point for a screen protector would be resale value!

Morning,

I think using screen protectors is like putting seat covers on your Jeep, the next owner gets a really good deal. I've tried several screen protectors and do not use them because the sensitivity really suffers.

Its your decision of course, but for me no screen protectors and no seat covers.

I agree I always put a screen protector on, for those daily use type marks on the screen but also for those accidental gouging accidents, or bumps with keys, etc. that would interfere with viewing such as watching movies. I had those drawing type marks on an older X5, I use the palm ones you have to cut them down, but I find them on sale sometimes.
