Question Change boot screen in WM6-Axim X51v

I looked all over aximsite and google for this.
I am using LennySh's L10 ROM. I found a method where you replace welcomehead.192.png. But I was told it only works for WM5. Is any utilities/ideas to replace the boot screen in WM6?

I think there's a feature that allows you to change the boot screen in L11.

I saw this in the tread about L11 at HTC Geeks:

You can't change the static bitmaps. But, you can change the animated screen and the glass breaking sound:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCAnimation\Start upGif = "\Windows\MyAnimationStartup.gif"
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCAnimation\Start upWav = "\Windows\MyAnimationStartup.wav"

You can have the files be any name, or they can be "". If "", then no animation and no sound.

What an old post! Trigor, I flashed L11 way back and forgot to report back

L11 is definitely the best ROM there is for x51v. Read my review for all WM6.1 ROMs if you haven't already: Experimental/Beta WM6.1 ROMs for Axim X51v

@Rob, thanks for looking! The animation is actually called "HTCAnimationStartup.gif". I'll see if I can replace it with my own

Hmmm, had a look in my registry and all I can find searching for the string "htcani" is in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall\Axim Animation\ExecutableFiles\

And thats calling an HTCAnimation.dll

I've tried to do stuff with the HTC files in the windows folder and there all protected, cant rename/move/delete them...

Just about to reboot and see what it does now...

Right, still no joy..

However found another link to the HTCAnimation.dll

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Startup\1

Weird as it didnt show up last time I searched, have deleted that string tho and now theres no animation or sound on boot, you just get the HTC Geeks logo and then the smashed glass WM 6.1 screen, then the desktop, not sure if its made any difference to free ram as I didnt check before I changed the registry entries...

Yay!

Deleting that last key worked for me too.

I'm so glad and grateful to get rid of that nasty sound (& cruddy animation)...

L11 is mighty, but that boot is a pain...

According to Lenny, the image for the broken glass is embedded in one of the required modules of the OS, and cannot be edited once the ROM is burned in. Maybe he'll make a "plain" version sometime without the animation. Personally, I hated it and did the trick to eliminate the animation and sound, but still have the broken glass image to put up with.

For the few seconds the broken glass thing is there it doesnt bother me, pretty sure the anim/sound was slowing down the boot sequence tho..

Sorry for upping such an old post, but I've just upgraded to L11, and I'm trying to take off the startup animation and sound ('cause I'm using my pda at work).

Maybe I'm wrong, but I have no HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCAnimation folder in the registry!

I've tryed to add that folder, and then the two strings StartupGif and StartupWav, with blank values (or even "" values), but... animation and sound are still there.

Hints??

EDIT: didn't see I had to delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Startup\1\dl string, too: now they are gone!

I simply took a gif and renamed it htcstartup.gif and it seemed to work ok, I could never get the wav to work according to the post on htc geeks though, as far as editing the registry is concerned...probably not the best idea stabilitywise

I'm just waiting to see what the new 6.5 rom is gonna bring. :approve:
