X50v versus Vista - HEEELLLLPPP!!!!!

I was happily using my X50v with Win Vista Home Premium, until the batteries went dead recently and i had to recharge from empty. Now, Vista won't recognise the Axim. Or rather, it recognises the hardware connection (it tends to only do this initially, then doesn't recognise it at all), and occasionally the device begins to sync (dialogue box comes up on PDA screen) but nothing happens. Oh, and TWICE in the last week only, has it managed to sync.

It all seems very random and i don't understand it.

I've got ROM A05. I'm running WMDC version 6.1. I've opened up the appropriate ports in my Firewall. I've tried disabling Windows Firewall and my antivirus. I've tried disabling my network too. None of this seems to work!

It's possibly the most frustrating bit of computing i've ever encountered.

Any help at all would be appreciated so much!
Many thanks
Tim

Since it seems random, I have a few things in mind (Lucky me it's Vista, 'cause I have minimal experience with activesync. Vista ftw!)

1. Try another USB port (If you use a USB hub remove it)

2. Use the Axim with another computer if possible.

3. Reinstall WMDC (Download details: Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6 for Windows Vista (32-bit))

4. If you get it connected. Start-->Run-->"devmgmt.msc" (No quotes)-->Under portable devices-->Uninstall PocketPC to reinstall the drivers

5. I found that this worked once for me. Follow Directions carefully. First go the the hard reset prompt screen by Power+Reset. Press DECLINE/CANCEL by pressing the MESSAGE KEY (Or the 3rd hard button from the left). Then, redock the Axim.

§ Good luck! §

You might want to go a step further with a firewall. Turn off your Internet first (prevents intrusion) then TURN OFF your firewall.

When you said you tried them all, did you try it on another computer with Windows XP? If it works, we can determine WMDC is the problem.

A few more ideas:

1. Faulty cradle? The USB line might be intermittent.
2. Try Bluetooth Sync. If you need help, just post here.
3. Last but least. Give it a hard reset (lose all info, be sure to ask me for tips/instruction) before you try it.

I just re-read your post. Did you make sure your time was correct?

Something like this happens to me occasionally. I'll plug my X51v into my Vista x64 system, and my Axim says it's connecting, but my PC gives no indication that it's doing anything. Or sometimes my PC will say it's connecting, but fail, or indicate an error (which it doesn't specify).

I found that if I stop and restart the Windows Mobile Device Center services, sometimes it works. I've attached a .zip file which contacts two batch files: "Enable Activesync.bat" and "Stop Activesync.bat" (I know it's actually the WMDC, but I originally wrote them for XP, and modified them for Vista). Try unplugging your X51v, then stopping the WMDC processes and services, then starting them again, then plug it in again. Oh, you need to right-click them and choose "Run as Administator", unless you've disabled UAC.

I wish you well.

guys, thanks so much for all the suggestions but none of it's working! the only thing i haven't tried is a bluetooth sync, as i have no bluetooth dongle for my computer.

the really weird thing is that, over the last month when i haven't been able to use it, is has let me sync on 2 occasions only, once using the cradle and once using my lead. i didn't do anything different to normal, and can't for the life of me work out what it was that made it sync on these occasions

thinking of reverting to XP...

I'm out of ideas. Why don't you try it out on another computer with XP? If that doesn't work, you can try reverting back.
