Upgrade to WM6 - advice and help needed

Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade to WM6 on my X50v as I want full sdhc support. Been spending weeks reading the forums but need answers to the following - can anyone help?

1. Originally was running ppc2003se, started following MagLites instruction for installing his WM6.1 A02 rom - he tells you to flash WM5 A01 first, then again to WM5 A02 then finally to the WM6. Did the first update (direct from sd) to A01 fine. Next downloaded the A02 update - this one needs to be done through activesync. Unfortunately my activesync connection has been really unreliable lately, and I'm worried about it disconnecting midupdate and bricking the machine. Do I definitely need to do this update first before flashing WM6 or can I go to WM6 straight from the WM5 A01 ROM? If not is there any way of installing it from an sd card?

2. From reading forums it seems like while x51v users can choose between a few different WM6 ROMs, only MagLite has released a ROM for the x50v. Is that correct?

3. MagLite's ROM says it supports sdhc "up to 8GB". Can anyone confirm? Would quite like 16GB! :)

Would be v grateful if anyone could answer one or all of these questions!

Thanks

No matter what you do just make sure the ROM your flashing is exactly for your unit. If it isn't then you will brick your unit. :approve:

Maglite has some great X50v (I actually read the post and read it was x50v, not x51v) ROMS.

You basically have two ROMs to choose from: Maglite or LennySh.

Answers:
1. Maglite wants you to update to A02 because A02 uses a different bootloader than A01. Therefore after you flash to A02, the bootloader will recongnize the WM6. So you need to flash to A02 to upgrade to any kind of WM6 ROM.

2. No, LennySh has also released his A09 version of X50v's ROM. Personally and IMHO, I think LennySh has the best ROM for any Axim device. His L11 (Successor to A09) is being beta tested. Whether you want to wait is up to you.

LennySh A09- Dell Axim x50v WM6.1 A09 (LennySh Edition) - HTCGeeks Forum

3. I read his post. If he says up to 8GB, I suspect (I do not know for sure) that is ONLY supports up to 8GB, NOT 16GB.

Recap about your problem here:
You have MagLite's A01 ROM. He wants you to upgrade to the OFFICIAL A02 ROM before flashing his WM6 ROM. Since your Activesync is unreliable, I suggest using the bootloader method (Wireless+power with reset button). But I know Dell does not give you a nb0 file for their OFFICIAL A02 ROM, you have to use their installer.

So my suggestion is: I am downloading the official A02 ROM right now. I'll see if I can extract/get a .nbo file from that. That will allow you to install via bootloader.

So Please Wait

Man, it turns out that the .img has some headers. So to get to the .nbo would be troublesome. AND you have to write a .crc. I have no idea how to write a .crc. So a this point.

We a few options:

1. We can try to solve your Activesync problem and make it stable so we can install AO2.

2. Blind luck and try flash WM6 (I doubt the bootloader would recognize it)

Any Aximsite pro got some ideas?

Update to part 3:

Multiple people reported compatibility with newer versions of Maglite's WM6 ROMS, including a couple 16GB SDHC cards and a 32GB CF card.
