Audio Driver on GatewayGT5238E keeps crashing

i have this weird problem, everytime i start up my computer i find that there is no audio driver installed, putting the computer into standby for 45 seconds is a temporary solution to this problem, after returning the audio driver reappears, only to disappear again the next day. this used to be an old problem that had occurred with the sigmatel audio driver back in 2006 when we first got this computer, but since june 2007 we upgraded to vista which did not use the sigmatel audio driver until i foolishly installed it again to try to find a way to listen to line in on my bluetooth headset, now after removing it im still having that problem with the microsoft high defininition audio driver. ive tried a BiOS update and the problem still persists. any ideas before i resort to doing a full re-install of vista

No idea what this has to do with X50 or x51. I'll try to help.

Do you have some specs of your Audio card and PC? That would help a lot.

Since you said putting it in standby is a temporary solution, I'm thinking try reconnecting the audio card and see if there is any dust in the case.

Run your 45-second sleep temporary problem workaround again, so you can get audio.

1. Start-->Run
2.Type in "devmgmt.msc" (No quotes)
3. Find Sound, video, and game controllers
4. Please right-click on "High Definition Audio Device" or "Sigmatel HD Audio Driver" (There should be only one of the two).
5.Uninstall
6. Restart your computer
7. Vista should automatically recongnize your audio card and install EITHER "High Definition Audio Device" or Sigmatel's own HD audio driver.

Additional instructions:
If it does NOT auto-install the driver:
1. Download the Sigmatel driver for your computer here: WIndows Vista (32-bit or 64-bit) Sigmatel HD Audio Driver 6.10.5405.0
2. Follow instructions as prompted.

If the problems occurs again after Windows auto-installs the driver:
1. Go back to "devmgmt.msc" (no quotes)
2. Uninstall the driver that Windows installed.
3. Follow the instructions above.

I forgot to mention try out a system restore or a image restore? I hope you are wise enough to backup.

Darn, I am officially out of ideas man. Why don't you post it at another forum and give it a try. At this point, I'm thinking of reinstalling. I reformat every single year. Keeps the speed fast and the junk away.
