i have this weird problem, everytime i start up my computer i find that there is no audio driver installed, putting the computer into standby for 45 seconds is a temporary solution to this problem, after returning the audio driver reappears, only to disappear again the next day. this used to be an old problem that had occurred with the sigmatel audio driver back in 2006 when we first got this computer, but since june 2007 we upgraded to vista which did not use the sigmatel audio driver until i foolishly installed it again to try to find a way to listen to line in on my bluetooth headset, now after removing it im still having that problem with the microsoft high defininition audio driver. ive tried a BiOS update and the problem still persists. any ideas before i resort to doing a full re-install of vista
No idea what this has to do with X50 or x51. I'll try to help.
Do you have some specs of your Audio card and PC? That would help a lot.
Since you said putting it in standby is a temporary solution, I'm thinking try reconnecting the audio card and see if there is any dust in the case.

PC specs
Gateway GT5238E
Ram:1GB
HD:250GB
Processor:intel core 2 duo
OS:windows vista premium (upgraded from xp media center)
sound card specs: all i kno is that its a high definition audio card with surround sound analog jacks, 1 input jack, a mic jack and a digital audio optical output.
Run your 45-second sleep temporary problem workaround again, so you can get audio.
1. Start-->Run
2.Type in "devmgmt.msc" (No quotes)
3. Find Sound, video, and game controllers
4. Please right-click on "High Definition Audio Device" or "Sigmatel HD Audio Driver" (There should be only one of the two).
5.Uninstall
6. Restart your computer
7. Vista should automatically recongnize your audio card and install EITHER "High Definition Audio Device" or Sigmatel's own HD audio driver.
If the problems occurs again after Windows auto-installs the driver:
1. Go back to "devmgmt.msc" (no quotes)
2. Uninstall the driver that Windows installed.
3. Follow the instructions above.

not resolved, still crashing.its only a minor issue to me because i can jus use my bluetooth headset (with digital audio) its more of a problem for others who use the computer who don't use bluetooth headphones, still trying to resolve it tho.
I forgot to mention try out a system restore or a image restore? I hope you are wise enough to backup.

system restore does not go back far enough for me to undo when i first installed the sigma tel audio, and now since this kept happening i now have to reactivate windows
Darn, I am officially out of ideas man. Why don't you post it at another forum and give it a try. At this point, I'm thinking of reinstalling. I reformat every single year. Keeps the speed fast and the junk away.
