Wireless network detected pop-up window not working
I have a used x51 that was given to me by a friend. I have been messing around with it though not an expert. After using it with the wireless turned on and driving around my neighborhood, I would get a pop-up messages showing a network was detected. After doing some soft and hard re-sets of the unit for other issues, I don't get that pop-up anymore eventhough I have notifications set for it. I have seen another thread for turning this off because it annoys some people, but I want to work on my unit. Is there some other setting or checkbox that i need to turn on. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks kcallahan. I did view ikehikers wi-fi faq's previously but I just noticed he suggests a couple of 3rd party wi-fi scanning programs. I might give 'em a try. Was hoping to resolve the issue without a 3rd party program if possible. Any other suggestions?
If you did a hard reset it should have gone back to the factory settings and the WiFi card is already set to enabled. Have you gone thru the Dell WLAN utility? It's on page 94 of your manual.
My suggestion would be to go to a place with free WiFi. Then go thru the setup to connect.

I can connect OK to free wi-fi. I have to use the WLAN utility to "manually" view the available networks when at one time I used to get the notification pop-up window automatically but not anymore for some reason.
In your WLAN setup, what is the Radio set to? It S/B On to detect Access Points.

Mine doesn't do that either. But, I don't have the built in WiFi either. I just assumed that was normal. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this. :)
