Axim with CE OS 5.2.1908 (Build 18508.0.7.0)

Hi all. I didn't mean to ask you guys silly question but just want to know if Axim X50 can be running on Windows Mobile 6. I am an IT support and a user had upgraded her Axim x50 to WM6 when she knew that her computer is going to migrate to Vista. However, we have problem on sychronizing outlook calendars between the handheld device and outlook 2007 though Contacts and Notes are fine. There is always sync errors if I've included Calendar. Actually, we would type chinese characters but the items which have chinese characters in Notes and contact can be sychronized successfully. just that we never make it when it comes to calendar items. I am not sure if language of non-unicode program doesn't matter but i've also tried all possiblities: Simplified chinese, Traditonal chinese and English. Then I checked on the web and it's said Dell has never announed official upgrade to WM6 for X50. Is that it's illegal to upgrade WM6 on the device? and what if I've it downgraded to WM5? Can it be working with Vista and outlook 2007? I hope you guys can give me some ideas. Thanks a lot!

The first Axim x50 WM6/6.1 ROM that I'm aware of was just released by MagLite a few days ago. It's a "test" ROM because MagLite doesn't even have an x50 himself to test it on so, he made the ROM and released it hoping people would try it and comment. More info and the download links can be found at:

Dell Axim X50 WM6.1 ROM (//MG) - xda-developers

But, as always, realize these ROMs aren't "official" and you or whoever owns that x50 is just taking the risk upon yourselves to apply it and see what happens.

I wouldn't exactly say it's "illegal," that's a bit harsh and going a bit far. People are simply taking devices with WM6/6.1 on them and dumping the ROM code and modding it to run on devices it wasn't really designed for. I would never consider such things or practices "illegal" as we as a race would never get anywhere if people didn't do things they're not "supposed to do." :)

Yes, Windows Mobile 5 is compatible with Windows Vista and Outlook 2007. But I don't think Calendar supports other languages. So, I think that is just Calendar itself, not the ROM.
