I wonder if somebody could tell me if there are really any huge glaring advantages of WM6 for the average user, or where I could find out more information about this?

Thank you.
If you do a search using google you should find all of those sites that are posting WM6 and WM6.1 ROMS for the X51V. I switched from WM5 late last year to WM6 and then to WM6.1 for the increased speed, stability and additional new features not available in WM5. The best test is to find one and try it as long as you have a X51V. :approve:
Not to also mention full sdhc card support as well

I have an X50V actually, not an X51. Does it make that much difference in terms of WM6?
Using a WM6 or WM6.1 ROM made for a X51V on a X50 or X50V will brick the unit. Just as using a X50 or X50V ROM on a X51V would do the same. Just do a search on this site on 'bricked unit' and you will see the results. :approve:

The technology used in the X51 series takes advantage of the newer flash memory, which has a faster write speed. Also the way that WM5 and WM6 work in terms of the non-volatile nature of the OS means that it takes advantage of the newer flash memory.
The problem with using WM5 or WM6 on the older X50 series is that there had to be tweaks made to the OS in order to make it run at the same speed. Essentially, WM2003SE and earlier ran in RAM, so it was very fast. Unfortunately, if your battery died, so did your OS.
It varies amungst users but various people find their X50 series run at just about the same speed using WM5 and above as it did with the WM2003SE and earlier but there are still some performance issues. Each user's experience is different.
I would refer to the HTC Geeks website to do some research and get the ROMs you need there for the X50 series. Lennysh is pretty good on updating this stuff - but please note - these people are not companies and they do it on their own time, so anything they put out, you should be very greatful for.
I've seen some ignorant twits complain with really stupid comments as to why something wasn't included in a given release.
If you don't like something that was released, tell the developer in a constructive way how to make it better and note any difficiencies or bugs.
Be good to the developers and you will see newer releases for the older platforms.
As said above - make sure you only use the ROM specifically developed for your device type: X50 ROM for an X50 and X50v ROM for and X50v etc.

There are versions of WM6 out for the X50v. However, the X50v was not designed for WM5 or WM6.
It has a different memory system than the X51v. The X51v was designed for WM5.
I tried to take my X50v to WM6 earlier this year, but was not happy. It felt very sluggish and had the problems that you will see in lots of posts here and on other forums. I took it back to WM2003 for the stability.
However, about a month ago I purchased a used X51v on eBay and immediately loaded it with Lennys L11 WM6.1 (htcgeeks.com) and have really liked it.
It has some issues:
I had to get rid of a few things that he had built in and had running like QuickMenus, etc. I need to reboot it more often than I did with my X50v with WM2003,
But it is fast! And, I can now run Skype again, and the email and other apps that come with WM6 are better than under WM2003. Also, Opera 9 is great on this setup.
Lennys A09 for the x50v is very smooth and fast. I noticed an improvement over Maglites wm 6 test 2. It's also psychologically comforting to be running the most current OS lol.
