Mobile 5 freezes with Reminders

This may be an old question but I couldn't find answers searching the archives. My Axim x51v with Mobile 5 freezes almost everytime I turn it on when a Calendar Reminder pops up. Sometimes I can dismiss one of them if there are multiple reminders but it will freeze after the 2nd reminder is displayed. The only solution is to do a Soft Reset and then it seems to work after that; but this happens daily. Is there a patch or update available to fix this? My Mobile 5 is OS 5.1.195 Build 14957.2.3.1.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

1. Go into Calender
2. Press "Menu" (On the lower-right corner)
3. Tools-->Options
4. Press the "Appointments" tab (On the bottom)
5. Uncheck "Set reminders for new items"

That should prevent it from setting reminders for new items

Now I assume you have a lot of Calendar items.
You have two choices, edit them or delete them.

If you edit them:
1. Press the item
2. Menu (Lower-right hand corner)
3. Edit
4. In the "Reminder" menu, select "None"
5. Rinse and repeat (Yes, it's a boring process)

To delete
1. Select the item
2. Press "delete" (Also a boring process)

Good Luck!

Check,
Start/settings/system/system information

Look at the ROM version,

if it is a number less tha A06 you might want to look at upgrading the Rom.

This sounds like an old glitch from the earlier ROMs.

It might also have something to do with duplicate notifications. Have you installed R148392 from Dell? It says it's for an Odyssey Client issue, but takes care of a lot of problems with notifications. Do a search for R148392 on Dell's site to find it.

R148392 can be found on Aximsite:

Or from Dell:
Drivers and Downloads

Yeah, haven't thought of that fix...

Thanks for all the tips guys. ROM is at A12 (06200600) so I think that's OK?? I've installed the patch R148392 as suggested and we'll see how that goes tomorrow.

Since you didn't mention it, and just to be clear. You ran the program after installing it, correct? I'm doing this from memory, since I no longer need the Notifications manager. Go to start/programs/notification manager (I think that's what it's called) and run it. Let the program mark and remove the duplicates.

Also, here's a good read on Notifications from one of Aximsite's own.

I keep getting that the R148392.exe is not a valid pocket pc application. You do download it directly to the ax, right?
I'm still learning so be kind.......LOL!

Download on your PC. Then double-click it. Follow instructions as prompted. Most files that are installed onto the Ax are in the form of .cab

Rob the Hillbilly,
if the file extension is .exe you must run it on your PC and it will install via Active sync.
It is a PC program and will basically place a .cab file on your PC which it will transfer to your Ax if you are connected or next time you connect.

If it is .cab then you can place it anywhere on your Ax and tap on it and it will install from there.

No problem rob, Life would be pretty boring if there was nothing left to learn.

Since applying this fix my ax will fly now on connecting to the net. As soon as I get a little more familiar with it I might just have to think about flashing it to a new ROM. But that might be a while yet, I don't have the confidence to do it yet.
Thanks for the help BOX!!!!

Thanks Kurt, yes I ran the program after. My Axim has been running fine for a week now since the patch with no freezing. Looks like the problem is corrected... and like Rob said for some reason it seems to access the internet faster too. I'll take a 2-for-1 deal anyday (even if it might be coincidence). Thanks to everyone! Aximsite rocks! :o)
