Would like to return to original after WM6.1 upgrade (language problem)

Hey everyone,

I have upgraded my Axim X51v to WM 6.1 (english) some time ago and now would like to return it to the original condition. That means WM 5.0 A04, Brazilian Portuguese rom.

I have the dell executable file that "updates" the rom. I ran it but can't install the rom, because it says that the language is not supported.

Is there some way to do it, perhaps converting this files from Dell to the format that can be used with the SD boot?

If I remember correctly, you need domme's boot loader and the Brazilian file.

You change the name of the file to fool it into thinking it is the right language.

But it's very late for me so I'm not going to search out the info for you.

Correction for Box: It's not domme's. It was written by Mark Young.

So Brazilian Portuguese= Portuguese on the Dell website? (Because it is a dialect of Portuguese, I infer)

I believe I have looked at this tutorial when I was "studying" before the upgrade. I know that the boot loader recognizes the rom by its name.

What I have from Dell's update tool is the AximX51v_WM5_A04BR.IMG file, with 43013 KB. I believe I can convert it somehow to bootable files...

And by the way, here in Brazil we speak simply portuguese, which I can say is a very rich language. What happens is that even being the same language, a LOT of words have different meaning in Brazil and Portugal, and those include most of the terms used on a computer's operating system and any other word that was invented in the last couple of centuries.

As I see on Dell's website, there's the option for Brazilian Portuguese and Iberian Portuguese (from Portugal).

You know, if you like the WM6.1 rom, but you want it to be in the Portuguese language, there is a way to "translate" the rom. However, your skills with translating between English and Portuguese has to be very good because you have to rename some terms (like "SD Card" or "Storage Card" in English). (For my X50(mid) WM6 rom, for example, I plan on making a Spanish version some time after the English version is stable).

I liked WM6.1 over WM5.0, but the point is that I want it to be as "original" for now. It is still under warranty and I think its touchscreen has some issues.

Probably I will return to WM6.1 after, and using a English rom (I personally prefer). :)

About the translation, I'm sure it is easier for me to translate from English to Brazilian Portuguese than from Brazilian Portuguese to Portugal's.
