Sync with Outlook - any options other than ActivSync?

Is there any program, free or pay, that can replace Active Sync?

Here's the deal: I have been Sync'ing with my work PC. But, every time I need to upgrade Active Sync I have to get permission from the IT guys, and they have to do it. Its a pain. I'd rather have software that I upgrade on my Axim side and then let it go out and find Outlook.

Is there anything like this? To take the software and put it Axim side so that I don't have to involve the IT guys at work? They are cool guys and have no problem doing it, but its just a bother to have to wait for them to find time to do it.

I just reset my AXIM (meaning: I went on vacation and forgot to charge it letting the battery completely drain resulting in a reset ), and now I have to call the IT guys and have them re-do the Active Sync upgrade so that I can re-do the Daylight Savings patch.

Sync Express was a good one at one point but those device are met to get the data pushed to it not the reverse and saying this teh PC must have a software installed to do so. You could also look into getting connected directly to the server which will push data directly to the PPC without the intervention or connection to a PC.

What ActiveSync upgrade are you referring to? Unless you get a WH5.0 or WM6.1 device (or upgrade the Axim), there's no reason to reinstall or upgrade ActiveSync. Certainly not because of a hard reset....

The DST fix is a file that you can download directly from Microsoft's website and install to your Axim - there's a Cab file there too - so there's no reason to involve ActiveSync at all.

I thought the DST patch had to be run from the PC, not from the Axim?

Also, the CAB file I found was for WinCE. I'm searching for the 2003se patch. Can anyone point me directly to the CAB that bypasses the PC entirely? That would be handy.

You can find a link to download the .CAB file that should work for your pocket pc here:

Thanks for that link. I had found it before, but I couldn't get it to work.

I have an Axim x50 using WM 2003 SE. But when I run this file, it says "is not a valid Windows CE Setup file." ????

So, i've been searching for an alternate.

((EDIT))
I found it on MS's site finally.
Download details: Windows Mobile Updates for Daylight Saving Time (Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC)

That has the .CAB file for WM 2003 correct. And it seems to work so far.

Back to the original question, I guess:

Is Active Sync the only option for our Axims? Is there another program that works without having to be installed on the PC? I say that $15 program that allows PC's to see your Axim as a USB Mass Storage device. I like that, but I'd like for some way to Sync with Outlook without having to install software on my office PC. Especially since I sometimes have to switch between PC's at work.
