Maximum transmission units

I have a dell axim x51v and SKtools. I normally tether my axim to my cellphone for out and about net surfing. I have had sktools for years and just noticed that the "Tune up" section in sktools alows me to increase the MTU for bluetooth (as well as other networking venues). I am curious what this does exactly, and how much I can tweak it on the axim? I have emailed tech support at sktools but after a few emails an about 4 weeks of no answers I have decided they dont really care about their customers. However, I am still curious how I can use this feature to speed up the communication between my pda and my cellphone for a faster surfing experience.

Any input would be awesome.

You can test this yourself. FInd a file to download and do it with different settings. Time the transfer and find the proper settings. I do not know the answer but would be curious to see what you come up with.
