Soft reset and stylus configuration

hi everyone,

my axim x50v has performed one of its periodic soft resets, I believe as a result of a 2200 battery being jiggled and the power going out. come to that, this might be a hard reset, I'm not sure.

I thought it was a soft reset because I turned the thing on and it did the usual 'Memory error - press this button' thing and booted up with the blue Dell boot screen. but then it did the asking me to configure the touchscreen/stylus thing where you have to poke the crosshairs till it's happy.

so I started poking the crosshairs, not too concerned because none of the data on the internal memory is valuable. everything worthwhile is on the CF card. except after poking the crosshairs for a while I realised it was repeating. it does about 4 or 5 then blinks back to the start of the sequence.

this is not terribly useful.

can someone help me? what's going wrong and how do I get through the configuration steps and back into my machine? I've come to rely on the little guy pretty heavily.

thanks!

Before the hard reset I would go to diagnostic mode hold record/power
and reset-see if that helps.

If that doesn't work, I'm having a hunch it might be a hardware problem.
It could be a bad RAM... See if a hard reset clears this. If not, I think you might have to send it in for repairs.

hi, I'm sorry, I don't entirely understand this suggestion. are you saying you hold the power button and the record button at the same time and this opens diagnostic mode? do you mean you have to reset as well? when I hold record and power at the same time without resetting, it just opens the stylus/screen test thing and beeps quickly twice.

Turn the Ax on push and hold power and record at the same time, while still holding press the reset button on the back with your stylus, that should go into diagnostic mode.

Have you dropped your Ax recently?

You may just have a dirty screen.

Have a look at this thread.

When my screen protector wasn't seated properly, this happened to me. Its not detecting the stylus input correctly and kept trying to help you align the screen.
