Personally, I like to avoid A-data and Transcend (I know Transcend has some cheap SD/CF cards, but my conscience tells me to avoid it ). Right now, I use Sandisk and Kingston.
SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) is not natively supported by x50. But SD up to 4GB works fine. There is a driver for SDHC support, but I think it's a hit-and-miss (SDHC driver for original aku 2.3.1 ROM). So, in conclusion, I suggest get a large SD card, preferably at 4GB.
As of CompactFlash, 4GB also works with WM2003. If you upgrade to WM5, it max changes to 32GB (From reviews I read, WM5 is "slow" on the x50...).
So, 4GB for CF and SD should be fine...
P.S.
On a side note, My x51v has 16GB CF and 16GB SD. Muh-wah-ha-hah-aha!

You can go bigger with CF Cards. I have an 8gb that works fine with 2003se on my x50, and yes it reads all 8gbs avaliable. I think 16gbs also work, and maybe 32gbs in 2003se.

What 8GB card do you have? I'd really like to pick up an 8GB CF card, as that would be ideal for me at this juncture.
Heck a 16GB would be nice as well, but I only want to spend the $$$ if I know it will work.
PS: On the "Compatability List" (which is brilliant, by the way), if a card is validated for X50v does that mean it will also be OK for an x50?
AFAIK,
99.9% of the Sandisk CF works... But I always recommend Newegg.com. Best shipping and customer service.

I have the Transcend 8gb cf card. I would recommend this brand. They are well built, and lot cheaper than sandisk, even come with a warranty. Bought mine at newegg.
And your question about the x50v vs x50, anything that works with an x50v will work with an x50 as long as they have the same os. In fact, that is all you are really looking for is os compatibility. B/c with newer oses, x50s will actually read sdhc cards.
You can get an 8gb for $16.99 or a 16gb for $35.99 in Transcend.
A-data also has a 8gb for $16.99 or 16gb for $28.99 all at Newegg

Well, Spunker, there has to be a reason why Sandisk is more expensive.
I'm thinking it's the write+read speeds. But then again, sometimes cheaper products do come out on top.

They do in fact have a faster write/read speed on some models. But, it has been said on this site before that axims cannot take advantage of faster cards. Sandisk is also the leading brand in flash memory. They are usually on top of new technology and so you are also paying for one of the best, if not the best names in flash memory. I also have sandisk memory and it is very good quality.
But, i have had a great experience with my transcend cf card, which has the speed of a flash drive when in my usb reader, and there is no speed issues on the axim at all.

Thanks, gang. I was looking at the Transcend cards, as I'd read other reviews (on this site) bragging about their quality vs. price considerations. I'll probably pick up one at NewEgg. I've used the Egg for tons of stuff, and its so handy. I'm glad to know that the 8GB is confirmed to work. Takes a load off my mind.
For $20, including shipping, adding 8GB of storage is a no-brainer. And I've never used my CF slot for anything, so its just wasted space right now.
I may even look at that 16GB card. That's tempting for less than $40. Not that I really have a need for it, but ... who knows?

I paid around $60 in 2007 for the same card, so your getting a good deal.
