Get your cab file from the above, install cab file on pocket pc. To get it to work properly you have to unzip two fake files a phone and sms dlls to your windows folder.
Oh great - you have to set up a Skyfire user account and everything you do is funneled through it - no thanks.
I don't need yet another company gathering browsing statistics on me.
Now, there is no requirement anymore to register in order to download, access, and use Skyfire. Once downloaded and installed, you can use Skyfire right away. Everything will work. I'm not registered and its working fine.
Boy, the website must really be out of date then. It says you have to register AND it says it's only good for phones running WM but then that's what the two added files are for...
However, all of your browsing still travels through Skyfire's web-massaging servers - that's how they give you the speed advantage. Their servers convert all the webpages you're surfing into something that can fit on your screen.
So my comment on them following your browsing still stands - even if you don't need to login - they still have your IP addy, location, time, etc.
By the way, the Symbian and Windows Mobile Tough user manuals are mixed up.
If you want to download the WM Touch manual - click on the Symbian link.
On the link I provided it don't think it says anything about registering, they should probably change the ones I didn't link that say you have to register-it's probably confusing.
Out of the box it's not supposed to work without the drivers. The axim isn't supposed to be able to run wm 6.1 either, according to Dell go figure. Fortunately, some kind developer got this working on non-phone devices.
They use their own proxy servers, I agree with what you said above, the only point I disagreed on intially was the registration.
I'm sure Skyfire is the fastest around if you use 3g to connect, but compared to Opera Mini with my current setup and wifi it was actually a tad slower, but definately faster than any other Opera browsers (Diamond, B2, etc) Ive used.
Full flash and java works pretty close to perfectly (which is the main thing I found lacking in my pocket pc browsing), which I think is pretty cool since there aren't any browsers out that support either of those, except for the concept IE6 for mobile browsers, and I haven't seen a working copy of it yet.
It would have been nice to be able to use this in an off-line mode in order to view flash and other files.
I couldn't get it to work on my Moto-Q - in fact I had to remove the battery to get out of it as it got hung up in a can't contact the server loop and wouldn't let me exit. Poorly written software in my view.
I'll stick with Opera - tried and trusted!
after unzipping fake phone files what do i do... i must be missing something...after unzip and load skyfire nothing happen...says skyfire no a app and may need to be reload............????? thx
After you unzip the 2nd file, you'll get a phone.dll and sms.dll. Copy those 2 files to the Windows directory on your device. Then, click on the Skyfire...CAB file on your device.
I think Skyfire was meant to run on a smartphone, where I guess the sms.dll and phone.dll are already there, so that's why they're needed.
Hopefully theyll come up with a vga version for high res devices. I use this for flash I still mostly use Opera Mini for most of my browsing needs the hacked jbed is working great Anyway unzip the files to your windows folder on your axim. Then put the skyfire cab on your pda and open it.
