Hi, I lost my Axim X51V today and I am sure I will never see it again. Sighhhh.
I was wondering what folks are replacing their Ax's with these days? I would like something that is good connecting to the net and runs windows mobile 5 or 6. I also like the ability of using CF cards and SD cards.
Mini laptops are too big for what I am looking for.
Cheers
Jon

Havent found anything to replace my x51v with especially for the money. Perhaps the Asus P565, but that seems a ways off, and I'm sure it won't be cheap. What os were you running before?
I disagree, the X51V is a 'Pocketable PC'. What you are recommending is not the same foot print. I have looked at 'NetBooks' and 'Mid Books' and have not been impressed. I will stick with my X51V, D620 and Razr (also stuck with Verizon). I will say if I needed a replacement for my X51V and none were available any where I would get a HP 211.
I use 16gb for cf and 8gb for sd but can be much more. Both Axim 51 and Ipaq are superb in performance running neck to neck - 624mhz. Ipaq 211 has 4" vga lcd compared to Axim x51v 3.7" screen; 256 ROM, 128MB RAM.

Well, if I lost mine i'd definitely look on ebay for a replacement. I like mine so much that I wouldn't be confortable with anything else!
What I like is that that laptop actually runs a full x86 windows xp, and has specs comparable to a lot of netbooks, but definately much smaller, 11 ounces. 4.8 inch touch screen with a full 1024x800 resolution. You're right though it looks a bit too big to be pocketable. Looks like its comparable in size to an athena.
My only real complaint is I wish my axim had 128 mb ram, that ppctechs upgrade is looking good, but its pricey
As it has been unpractical for me to carry my Axim X51v pda, RAZR2 V9 cell, and Garmin 10x BT GPS, as well as constantly worrying about batteries and keeping all devices charged up, I decided to seek the unattainable: CONVERGENCE.
After patiently waiting for a single device that comes close to matching my X51v specs and is able to replace my three most used devices, I decided to order the HTC Fuze ($150 after rebate via AT&T customer service price match to Amazon). Naturally, this comes at the huge sacrifice of giving up the Axim's large VGA screen and overall performance, but in return you get a single pocketable device w/ a sliding keyboard and only 1 battery to worry about.
Have any other Axim users considered the HTC Fuze (Touch Pro)? If so, how does it compare? (I'm still waiting for mine)
I know the feeling, I keep my axim (and 6 batteries!) charged, smartphone, ipod nano, with me 95% of the time. I've considered it, I think on another site, people were switching over from the x51v to the HTC Touch HD, same size screen with better res. That sliding keyboard does look nice though.
The HTC Touch HD was my top choice, until I read from several sources that it will not be available for the US . So, the HTC Touch Pro (AT&T Fuze) was my only alternative.
BTW, the only way, I was able to keep all my devices charged up on the go was by buying a Socket Mobile Power Pack (7200 mAh)- while, it was expensive, it saved all three devices + BT headset from dying when I needed them most. Of course, the caveat was having to carry that heavy powerpack everywhere.
My new years resolution for 2009 is to try to SIMPLIFY wherever possible, and the Fuze might just help. :approve:
