WM6 issues

Okay, I read the entire thread (almost) about whether or not I should or should not install WM6. I gotta tell ya it was worse than trying to slog thru an Arthur C. Clarke novel, but it did express both sides of this issue very well. Kudos to all who expressed ideas, opinions, facts etc without sniping or low level shots at others' beliefs.
So, I grabbed Lennysh's L11 ROM for my x51V, said a prayer to the anti-brick gods, and decided to test the water with my forehead. OMG, it's like having a new PDA. Faster, connects better, looks great and the new Start menu is a lot easier to use than WM5.
Coupla things.........
I can't find the backup/restore utility. I backed up my data from my WM5 PIM, but can find no way to restore the calendar, tasks, etc.
My Dell 200 BT headset once again has the annoying "dr p ed s un s" issue. I fixed it in WM5 using the Tornade A2DP patch, but that will not work in this version of WM.

If anyone can help out, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, I tried doing several searches through the forum for this info, but found nada.

Great, you won't regret flashing L11.

Hehe, I guess you didn't search hard enough
Here's the .cab file for HTC backup (aka "Default Backup"): HTC Data Backup download at Freeware Pocket PC.

My suggestion is to not use the default backup, but rather to spent a bucks with programs like SPB backup or Sprite backup.

I'm looking around on the A2DP problem.

mmm, try the Widcomm stack.
As M$ switched to their own stack after WM5.

Link is here.

If you don't like it, you can always uninstall.

Personally, I prefer Widcomm's own stack over Microsoft's or Bluesoleil....

Tried the backup utility. Stuck at 2% then went bye-bye (new technical term for crashed, partially restored, then uninstalled itself). I suspect the uninstall had more to do with the fact that the backup was from WM5 and I tried to restore it to WM6?

Thoughts?

So, after trying both of those the verdict is.....ITS A BRICK!
Dim display, 0% in battery indicator, memory errors when trying to do anything. No way to uninstall. Fortunately, I still have the ROM so it looks like a reflash is in my near future.
Also, before the going sideways, I noticed some ugliness in my icons and WMP display.

Any idea what happened before I re-image and NEVER DO THAT AGAIN?
(not choked or anything, figured I might have to play with this a bit)

never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never restore data from a previous OS version.

You might find some people that say that it is ok, hit them with a brick and tell them, never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never resore from a previous OS version.

you MIGHT get away with it from one flavor of ROM to another

Now that all of the horses are back in the barn, I have my BT headset working. I do notice, however, that trying to use the BT and WiFi at the same time results in degraded BT performance. There is a warning to this effect when you set up your connection but you can choose to ignore it and not be reminded, so future users beware. Anyway, this is not a large deal as I do not normally use these 2 together. Thanks again.

Radimus,
chrisjc mentioned that he/she wants to restore PIM data. I believe that is okay because out of the numerous times I have flashed (30+), restoring PIM data from another version or flavor is fine.

But restoring from a full backup is NOT. It restores keys into the registry and WILL BRICK your device.

So what's your status right now? You still have a semi-bricked device? Sorry, your post is somewhat confusing...

No problem. What happened was;
I tried to restore - My back up file is a FULL backup and it did brick my Axim, but not right away. After the Restore program stopped, I tried the BT stack install, soft reset and VOILA, a brick. So, that I will never never never never etc try again.
Guess I can just delete the back up file, there was nothing in there that can't be recovered from somewhere else. I was hoping the backup utility would allow me to selectively restore only the PIM. I'll know better next time.
At this point in time I now have a fully functional WM6.1 Axim. The BT works great, the BT Manager function is a dream once you get it figured out. BTW, I had seen the widcomm stack before but was not sure if it would work with WM6. Thanks again

chrisjc - Did you sync your PIM with your PC when you were using WM5?

I use Agenda Fusion - but this would work with Pocket Outlook just as well - and Outlook 2007 on my PC. Before I flashed the rom to Lenny's, I did one last sync with my PC. After I did the install of WM 6.1 - I set up a new partnership with Activesync and voila! my PIM data synced back on to the Axim.

Yeah, unfortunately did a full backup. Therein lieth the rub. Apparently, trying to restore a full backup from one OS to another is BAD. Anyway, onward and upward to even greater adventures. This one was fairly inexpensive, but I learned a few things. Thanks again to all for the help.

okay -- maybe I am missing something.
Did you use Activesync or that Windows Mobile Device Center before to syncronize your Axim and Outlook on your PC? If not, then that is the info I was missing, and don't bother to read on!

If so, regardless of what type of backup you did, you should have data in Outlook on your PC, and if you set up a new partnership with your now WM 6.1 Axim, you should be able to get whatever version of the data in Outlook that you had at the last sync onto your Axim.

I used the backup utility in WM5. Full BU to a file on my CF card, then tried to restore only the PIM. Classic PEBKAC. All the Outlook data is still on my work laptop, so it only took syncing once more to get it all back. No additional SW required.

Gotcha -- The only good news is that with a fresh OS install, the Ax runs like new!

Just like new, except...........
why can I not view multimedia content on the web? Every site I try to watch media stuff from tells me that I need a Flash plug-in, yet I have already downloaded and installed Flash for Mobile devices.
YouTube threatens to brick my axe (it doesn't) but will not play videos. I tried downloading the TCPMP plugin and installing it but nothing changed (yes, I reset my machine). One of the other sites suggested reading the instructions (what fun is that), but the link included took me to an all-white page. Also, it seems IE wants to use WMP to view these, but it will not play the files anyway. Tried the YouTube player but it cannot seem to find the cookie (yes, cookies are allowed).
I have spent boocoo hours searching the web, with no resolution that seems to work.
So, is there a problem with the ax or am I just doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
