Upgrading to WM6

Q. Tried searching for this before I posted. Anyway if you are going to upgrade your Axim x51V WM5 Rom A012 to Lenny's 11, (WM6) do the upgrades need to be done in succession or are they all inclusive.

I.e. First I upgrade to WM6 A01. 2nd - Upgrade to WM6 A06 and then upgrade to WM6 A11 or do I simply upgrade my Axim x51V from WM5 A12 to WM6 A12?

:) Inquiry minds want to know.

I already had A12 on mine so I was able to flash lennys upgrade just fine. If you already have A12 installed you should be able to do the same.

Edit to claify: no lennys does not come bundled with ROM A12

mm, confusing post...

The order should be for x51v:
Dell's Stock WM5 A04-->WM5 A06-->WM5 A12-->Whatever WM6 ROM you want

I do not believe there is such a thing as WM6 A12. Each 3rd party developer will name their ROM differently. For example, Lenny's WM6.1 ROM is called L11.

Remember, WM6 for x51v will VOID your warranty and you will receive NO HELP from Dell.

There are multiple "flavors" of WM6 and WM6.1 you can flash. For more information, read my post: here.

As always, be sure to backup EVERYTHING before flashing a new ROM.

This has nothing to do with Vista. It's the Axim. When upgrading/flashing, you use the bootloader, not Activesync...

I bought the Axim off Ebay for a college class I'm taking and it's not under Dell's warranty so I could care less if I void the warranty or not. The thing I wish to avoid is bricking the darn thing. Plus the Axim is over 3 years old so there is definitely no warranty from Dell.

The reason I asked about the upgrade is because some software applications require you to upgrade in successive steps and I wasn't sure if the Axim was following these same rules. Since the latest WM5 ROM is A12, I'm going to backup everything and then make the leap to the best WM6 there is.

I just flashed a x51v to the newest Lenny WM6. It was an A06 WM5 to start, no intermediate flashes needed. Simplest flash I've ever done, the X5 I did before was a pain in the butt.

Get a smallish (1gb?) normal SD card (not SDHC), format it fat32, stick the files on it, stick the card in, press wireless+power+reset, release reset, wait for the loader... go blow 10 minutes and you're done.

That's interesting.
Did you flash from Dell's A06-->Lenny's L11?

I thought it would be a little bit more difficult. I have been seeing the 1gig sd ram for around $10 so it sounds like I just need to pickup Lenny's latest and place them on the SD card and flash the rom. The last SD card I picked up was already formatted to Fat32 so this should be an easy upgrade.

Thanks

I too flashed directly from A06 to Lenny's L11. Very sweet! No issues. Works great!

So, from that, I can infer that A06 and WM6.1 uses the same bootloader. Originally, I thought only A12 shared the same the bootloader. Thanks!

I could be mistaken on this but I always thought it was WM5 A01, then WM5 A02, then any rom you wanted, or if it was A03+ you could directly flash wm 6.1. I also read you could use the bootloader from A02 to flash directly to wm 6.1, but was never brave enough to do it.

This is all for x51v:
A01, A02, A04, and A06 uses different bootloaders.

Then A06, A12, and WM6.1 ROMS share the SAME bootloader.

That's my 2-cents.
